PART III - 'Charybdis Island'

J

"

Day 24

It has been approximately two weeks,

Since the day I've arrived at this unfamiliar place.

Uninhabited yet magical,

This island seemed to hold a number of untold secrets,

That lured me into discovery.

No matter how many times I strode across this isle,

The place seemed to be empty,

Leaving just me, myself and I,

Together with this diary that somehow survived through the wave storm with me.

Why have I decided to write the diary?

Because it would help me kill time?

No.

I wrote it,

Just so I could record all the incredible things I found here in this island,

And show it all to her one day."

I stopped writing and left the diary on the sand while looking out into the distance, where the sun was setting above the sealine, finishing the vivid scenery with a glowing drift.

Watching the seagulls wandering across the shore and searching for treats, I picked up a large stick and continued my map drawing of the island on the sandy beach.

It was rather strange that the place was forbidden, more precisely, it was never known.

No one has ever landed their foot on this place, where everything seemed like a dream to me.

The whirlpool and the shipwreck, it all seemed like yesterday when I first came here, with no company.

It was as though the occurrence was a nightmare till I realised how the place was enchanted with myths that never seemed to be real.

Not forgetting the creatures that lived deep in the isle, howling through the night.

It was a haunting experience, yet the island inspired me with the meaning of life.

Exploring the hidden secrets with you,

It was something I wished would happen.

I looked up into the sky again to see a rookery of albatross travelling through the air while swooping their beaks down into the water.

Realising how the secrets of nature seemed to only appear once in a while, I picked up the diary and continued my wish.

"If you were with me now,

I would've carried you on my back,

And head towards the ocean,

Where we might catch a glimpse of the whale.

We could build a large tent over here,

And spend our time together all day.

All month, perhaps.

Just the two of us,

Staring far into the ocean,

Admiring the beauty of nature.

How fascinating it would be.

I wished you were by my side now,

Cuddling into my arms,

Telling me to cook a feast for you.

I miss you so much,

Jeon Yeri.

Please wait for me,

So we could continue,

Our Whale Tale,

Together.
