We re-appeared at the top of a set of stairs and Mor smirked, pressing a kiss to my hand before disappearing again, leaving me stood awkwardly at the top.
"Servants aren't permitted to attend" a guard caught my arm, and I lifted my chin, glaring at him.
"I am a member of the Night Court, and you'd do your best to take your hands off me" I hissed, the males eyes widened, stepping back.
"your name?"
"Alexandrite Greene" I smoothed my dress out.
"Lady Greene of the Nigh Court" he announced to the room, and I approached the stairs, surveying the room as heads turned my way. The patch of dark clothing made it easy to locate my friends.
My eyes snagged Azriel's hazel ones, watching his mouth part as I began walking down the stairs in my heels carefully. He stumbled forward, likely being pushed by Cassian, and met me at the bottom, offering me his arm which I accepted with a smile.
"don't you look handsome" I murmured to him, checking him out from the sides of my eye.
He truly did, dressed in a black dress shirt with matching trousers, subtle shadow patterns engraved into the black. His hair was jelled, curls falling above his eyes and the tattoos were visible due to his rolled-up sleeves.
"The way I look does not even compare to how beautiful you are" his hazel eyes gleamed as he took me in. "blue looks good on you"
"Yes, I suppose it does" I smiled, looking at his hand which had a blue siphon on it pointedly.
"flirt" he squeezed my hand, smile at the corner of his lips. He guided us through the crowd to the others, never taking his hands off me.
"wow" Feyre beamed "you look amazing"
"indeed" Rhys's violet eyes shined as he sent me a wink to which I smiled at.
"fancy a dance Little warrior?" Cassian offered, eyes holding a hint of vulnerability that almost concerned me.
"sure, I can't promise I won't step on your toes though" I joked lightly, Azriel letting me go so Cass could guide me to the dancefloor.
"Were you serious about not being able to dance?" he whispered as we copied the positions of the people next to us and my eyes flickered between his in a little panic.
"When the hell would I have learned? Between sword fights?" I hissed and he chuckled.
"gods this is going to be good"
Turns out Cass could barely dance either, so we were a bit of a mess. But we were both laughing too hard to notice the glares shot our way every time we almost bumped into another couple, but whether it was sheer luck or a little of Rhys's magic that kept us together...I didn't know.
We bowed to each other as the dance finished and I had to duck my head to hide my laughter as I followed behind his wings back towards the others.
"Quite the show" a voice drawled, and I noticed everyone tense up, trying to peer over Cass's shoulder but his wings shielded me from whoever was talking. "I didn't think the Night Court kept pets anymore"
"watch your tongue Eris, or you might find yourself losing it" Rhys voice was smooth but unforgiving and I felt my heart swell a little.
Cassian was shoved aside by an invisible force, and I came face to face with a male with bright red hair and amber eyes. Said eyes narrowed at me and I kept my face stoic, staring right back at him without blinking.
"Humans are supposed to bow to their High Lords" he prowled, waiting and I tilted my head ever so slightly.
"I do bow, to my High Lord and Lady"
He didn't like my answer it seems, stepping closer to me and I sent Cass a look as he went to intervene. Azriel's face a cool fury as he kept his shadows back, gaze pinned on Eris with his hand resting on his knife, Truthteller.
"They seem to care for you a great deal, dressing you up like this" he caught my chin between his fingers and I could feel the fire running through his veins. Mor had told me about her past with Eris and I'd be damned if I walked away from this like a coward. "it almost makes you look presentable."
"well, it's a mighty good thing that I'm not here to impress you."
"High Lord" he corrected through clenched teeth, and I let an almost satisfactory smile grow across my face.
"there's no need to call me by such a title, sweetheart"
I saw smirks light my friends faces, and Eris was practically steaming as I jerked my face from his grasp.
"Do you have any idea what we do to your kind in my Court?"
"Do you have any idea what I can do to yours?" I leant forward, "don't mess with me, kid. You won't like how it ends"
He bared his teeth at me, and I smiled pleasantly, winking, before he prowled away.
"well, he's a delight" I said, turning back to the others as I lost the back of Eris's head in the crowd.
"that's saying the least" Mor muttered, taking a big sip from her glass.
"you called him Kid" Rhys grinned, pushing his tongue against his teeth with amusement. "you realise he's over 500 years old"
I hummed knowingly, noting that Feyre had disappeared.
"where's Fey?"
"she's gone to talk to Tarquin" Azriel filled me in, and I smirked at Rhys's eye roll.
"did you like our dancing brother?" Cassian nudged the Shadowsinger and Az lightened his scowl, shadows easing around the place again and I felt a few twines up my legs under my skirt, settling around my waist.
"it was certainly something" his eyebrow rose, "like two drunk fools"
I pulled a dramatic face of offense, as did Cassian.
"can you believe the cheek of it?" I asked the long-haired male who shook his head.
"especially seeing as I've never seen him dance"
"oh?" I lifted my eyebrows at Azriel who sighed, raising his own "all talk no dancing, is it darling?"
"I'm busy keeping an eye on things" he excused, and Rhys looked at him as Mor snickered.
"I'm sure the spymaster could take a break" the High Lord said and Azriel shot him a look to which he shrugged.
"Later. If we're dancing, I'm going to make the most of it" he promised, looking at me and I smiled softly, nodding. I could wait. Forever, if it was for him.
