She guided us to a sitting room further into the house and on the walk, I took the opportunity to study the males walking ahead of me. The one with the long hair and wings, and the one with the violet eyes. Power radiated off him, so he must be their High Lord. I could feel the eyes of the Hazel one behind me, shadows following my every step.
The question was, what court were they? They didn't fit in with any of the others I had met, and they certainly weren't Hybern.
My dagger nestled safely in its arm strap, and I couldn't help but tap one of the others attached to the outside of my thigh. It would be a hard fight if I had to take down all three of them at the same time. Practically impossible but that doesn't mean I wouldn't try.
Feyre took place in a loveseat, the purple eyed one joining her, placing a hand around the back of it. The long-haired one took place by the library, pretending to look at a book whilst the shadowmaster leant against the wall by the door.
"We don't bite" the violet eyed one spoke, a smirk on his lips, eyebrow cocked.
"unless you want us to" the long haired one winked and I pursed my lips, eyes flicking back to Feyre.
"are they always like this?"
"yes" she smiled, gesturing for me to take a seat, and I removed my sword from my hip before doing so.
"that's a Day Court weapon" the hazel eye commented and I nodded in agreement.
"a gift from one of the soldiers I met" I traced the hilt fondly, resting it over my knees.
"you fought among fae?" Feyre leant forward, eyes shining with interest "I thought-"
"Turns out it wasn't just humans who didn't want Prythian taken over. There were plenty of fae who fought with us, from many different courts." Faces flashed through my mind, vacant eyes of pretty faces and I forced my gaze to the window, taking a breath. "None dressed quite like you though" I looked back at them, the dark clothes, flesh wings.
"When Amarantha took over Prythian 50 years ago I put out a ward around my court. It prevented my people from leaving or entering" violet eyes explained, and I nodded.
"smart" I couldn't help myself from studying their wings, so different to the feathered ones I had treated. The hazel eyed ones fluttered under the attention, and I met his gaze.
"Alex, let me introduce you to part of the inner circle of the Night Court," Feyre started, "this is Rhysand, Cassian and Azriel" each of the males bowed their head respectively "guys, this is the person who is solely responsible for us not dying-"she waved her hand at my protest "Alexandrite Greene"
"Alex is fine" I muttered, dipping my head "now will you tell me how you've changed race, all the other stuff can wait until after"
So Feyre began telling me about the wolf she killed, about Tamlin and the Spring Court. About how she fought Amarantha, about how her and Rhysand met. About how she died.
"she snapped me neck but then Rhys-"
My teeth ground together as my throat closed, shutting my eyes to hide the flash of pain that travelled through me.
She snapped my neck.
"you died?" the words burned in my mouth, opening my eyes to stare at her. She paused, hand seeking Rhysand's who squeezed. She nodded and I shook my head. "Fey, fuck. You could've started with that. Mother above" I rose from my seat, standing in front of the window as I rubbed my head, headache forming. My heart raced under my skin and I'm sure they could hear it. Fae ears and all.
