A good night

"A Banshee?" Azriel mused as he lay in the bath.

"that's what he thinks"

I ran my fingers over the rug I was sat on, leaning back against the tiled wall of his bathroom as I accompanied his shadows.

"bit of a danger for the bedroom" his words made me laugh, smile sitting on my lips as I looked at him, wings hanging over the sides of the tub.

"I don't think I'm much of a screamer"

"maybe you just haven't been with the right person" his hazel eyes melted across me, and my heart fluttered under the attention, turning my attention back to his shadows.

Azriel couldn't help but admire Alex, as he had found himself doing since the day they met.

He had always found her beautiful, even when she was human. But now, now she was simply enchanting. And she glowed. Glowed so beautifully that even his shadows couldn't resist weaving with her light.

He had watched her, studied her all these months and yet he still couldn't quite figure her out. He knew how to make her laugh, how to refocus her. He knew when she got lost in her memories, when she allowed her mind to sink into that place she rarely talked about.

What he didn't know, was how to keep this war from her. To stop it taking her like the last one had.

There was a deep need, an ache that had him searching for her protection.

But now, now she had learned she might be a Banshee.

A creature that could harm with just a scream. And he didn't know how she was going to take it. Didn't know how to help her. But he would. Somehow. Even if it meant just being by her side through it.

Help this beautiful creature like she had helped him. She had shown him kindness like never before, and gods did he love her for it.

"Az?"

His eyes turned to hers, green lulling him in.

"yes heart?"

He admired the way her cheeks tinted at the nickname, her white curls tucking behind her newly pointed ear.

"I asked how your day had been"

He didn't give a fuck about how his day had been, only that she was here with him now.

"Nothing of concern" he brushed off, running his fingers through the lukewarm water "Heard some fun stuff from Helion's room"

"Helion... he's Day court right?"

He nodded, leaning an arm against the tub, noticing how her eyes had turned back to his wings, which flared under her gaze.

She had always noticed them, although he supposed they were hard to miss. But she- she always seemed to have a special interest. Perhaps because his wings were so different to the ones she had treated.

The members of Day had spoke of her like a god, like a miracle. Maybe that was her purpose.

He began to rise out of the tub, smirking as she quickly covered her eyes, blush darkening across her face.

Azriel was quick to dry off, letting me know I was safe to look once he was decent, dressed in some night bottoms.

"c'mon" he helped me off the floor, the warmth radiating from him.

I watched him settle into bed, the low lights gleaming off his muscles and I'd never had such a desire to run my hands across them. Perhaps my tongue.

"You are incredibly beautiful Azriel" the words came out like a soft sigh and the shadows curled around my arms, pulling me towards the bed, where he met me. His hands caressed my side, steadying me as my knees landed on the soft mattress.

"And you, my dear, are entirely breathtaking." He breathed, catching my chin as went to turn my gaze away. "I mean it. Ever since I met you, I've meant it"

"ever since?" I repeated, eyes fluttering down to his mouth, those plump lips.

"ever since" he confirmed, leaning closer and my eyes slid shut. I felt the brush of his nose against mine before-

"Brother you'll never-oh!" Cassian exclaimed, eyes going wide as he looked between us after storming through the door.

I sighed, separating from the Shadowsinger and standing by the bed.

"your timing Cassian, seems to be impeccable" Azriel's tone was laced with frustration and Cassian winced.

"Maybe you should have written it on the door, so I knew not to enter" his joke made me chuckle, shaking my head at the pair of them.

"it's alright, Azriel and I can pick this back up another time" I let my eyes linger on the Shadowsinger, shadows caressing my skin like a lover before I bid them both goodnight.

A good night indeed.
