"Man only likes to count his troubles; he doesn't calculate his happiness."
THIRD PERSON POV
The five of them were sitting in the common room, discussing all the conversation Harry had with Tom Riddle's diary.
"Harry, we can't just put the blame on Hagrid out of the blue. The diary may have tricked you" Arilene tried reasoning to Harry's theory. "No, It was Hagrid. Hagrid opened the Chamber of Secrets fifty years ago" He said for the tenth time in the span of 15 minutes.
"Ok now what the hell are they talking about?" James asked dumbfounded.
"You trying to make us believe that, the diary you picked up from Martyles bathroom, was Tom riddle's and he has his memory sucked inside it. And yesterday he showed you his memories in which Hagrid's pet who was a monster had murdered Martyle, and then hagrid was the one who opened the chamber, uggh, it doesn't make sense." Adalyn frowned scratching her head.
"God this is so confusing, what are they even tryna tell us?" Briony scowled peeping at the book from James's shoulder.
"Riddle might have got the wrong person," said Hermione. "Maybe it was some other monster that was attacking people..."
"How many monsters d'you think this place can hold?" Ron asked dully.
"We always knew Hagrid had been expelled," said Harry miserably.
"Hagrid opened the chamber of secrets? Is that true professor McGonagall?" Lily asked, her brows scrunched up in confusion as she stared at Minerva who just faced the other way without speaking a word.
"And the attacks must've stopped after Hagrid was kicked out. Otherwise, Riddle wouldn't have got his award." Ron tried a different tack.
"Riddle does sound like Percy — who asked him to squeal on Hagrid, anyway?"
"But the monster had killed someone, Ron," said Hermione. "And Riddle was going to go back to some Muggle orphanage if they closed Hogwarts," said Harry. "I don't blame him for wanting to stay here..."
"You met Hagrid down Knockturn Alley, didn't you, Harry?"
"He was buying a Flesh-Eating Slug Repellent," said Harry quickly.
"You guys are being unreasonable. Hagrid's been our friend since the first year, and all of a sudden we doubt him for opening the chambers." Adalyn sighed.
"yeah exactly, you all are doubting him out of the blue based on some random diary's words" James scoffed rolling his eyes.
The five of them fell silent. After a long pause, Hermione voiced the knottiest question of all in a hesitant voice. "Do you think we should go and ask Hagrid about it all?"
"That'd be a cheerful visit," said Adalyn. "Hello, Hagrid. Tell us, have you been setting anything mad and hairy loose in the castle lately?"
The people chuckled lightly at her statement.
In the end, they decided that they would not say anything to Hagrid unless there was another attack, and as more and more days went by with no whisper from the disembodied voice, they became hopeful that they would never need to talk to him about why he had been expelled
