The next morning, Mon sat in the living room, waiting for Sam to get ready for her prenatal checkup. The quiet of the house was suddenly interrupted by the ringing of Sam's phone.

"Sam, your phone is ringing! It's grandmother," Mon called out.

From the bedroom, Sam's voice echoed back. "Can you answer it for me, Mon?"

The phone continued buzzing with anticipation as Mon answered, "Hello, grandmother. This is Mon speaking."

A warm, familiar voice came through. "Hello, Mon. How are you, dear? How is Sam?"

Mon's heart softened at the genuine concern in grandmother's voice. "Sam is just getting ready. We're about to leave for her prenatal checkup."

A sigh of relief was audible from the other end. "Thank you for always taking care of her, Mon. I truly appreciate it."

Mon smiled, her voice tender. "It's nothing, grandmother. I love Sam so much, and I'll do anything to protect her."

There was a moment of silence, filled with unspoken understanding. "I know that now," grandmother admitted, her tone sincere. "I've seen how much you mean to her, and I regret not recognizing it sooner."

Mon felt a rush of emotion, her eyes glistening. "Thank you, grandmother. That means a lot to me."

Grandmother continued, her voice steady but soft. "I've been reflecting on a lot of things, Mon. I realize now how much pain my decisions have caused. I'm truly sorry."

Mon's heart swelled with both relief and gratitude. "Thank you for saying that. It means the world to Sam and me."

There was a comforting warmth in grandmother's response. "You're both very important to me. I want us to move forward together, with understanding and love."

Mon nodded, even though grandmother couldn't see her. "After Sam's checkup, we'll come to see you. I think it would be good for all of us."

Grandmother's voice brightened with hope. "I'd like that very much. Safe travels to the doctor, and give Sam my love."

Mon hung up, feeling a renewed sense of optimism. She called out to Sam, "Grandmother sends her love and we'll visit her after your checkup."

Sam emerged from the bedroom, ready to go. "Thank you, Mon," she said softly, reaching for Mon's hand.

As they headed out the door, Mon felt a sense of peace, knowing that their family was beginning to heal and that together, they could face whatever challenges lay ahead.

After Sam's prenatal checkup, Sam and Mon made their way to the hospital to visit grandmother. The drive was quiet but filled with a sense of anticipation and hope. They finally arrived and walked through the familiar halls, hand in hand, until they reached grandmother's room.

Mon knocked gently on the door before they entered. Grandmother looked up from her bed, her eyes lighting up at the sight of them. "Sam, Mon," she greeted warmly, her voice filled with genuine affection. "It's so good to see you both."

Sam approached the bed, her hand still firmly clasping Mon's. "Hi, grandmother. How are you feeling today?"

Grandmother smiled, reaching out to take Sam's hand. "Much better now that you're here. And how did the checkup go?"

Sam glanced at Mon, her face glowing with happiness. "Everything's good. The baby is healthy."

Grandmother's eyes welled up with tears of joy. "That's wonderful news, dear. I couldn't be happier for you both."

Mon stood by quietly, watching the exchange with a soft smile. She felt a gentle squeeze from Sam, encouraging her to join in. "Grandmother," Mon began, stepping closer, "I want to thank you for reaching out to us. It means a lot."
