Their playful interaction was interrupted by the sound of the office door opening, and Nuea's voice calling out a greeting. Nuea teased, "I hope I'm not interrupting anything important between you two."
Mon and Sam exchanged a quick look, their cheeks reddening with embarrassment as they tried to compose themselves before facing their friend.
Mon smirked mischievously at Nuea, "Oh, no disruptions at all. Just a delightful morning snack with Sam here," she said, casting a playful glance at Sam, who blushed at the implication. Sam jokingly nudged Mon with her elbow, knowing exactly what Mon was insinuating.
Mon winced slightly when Sam's elbow made contact with her side. Sam quickly turned her attention to Nuea, asking him why he was there.
Nuea hugged Sam tightly, his voice heavy with regret as he said, "I'm so sorry, Sam, for not being able to protect you." He held her for a moment longer, the weight of his words sinking in, before slowly pulling back to look her in the eyes. "I should have been there for you," he continued, his tone filled with remorse. Sam gave him a small, reassuring smile, trying to ease his guilt. Mon stood nearby, her eyes softening at the emotional exchange, understanding the depth of Nuea's regret.
Breaking from the hug, Sam grabbed Mon's hand, offering her a reassuring smile. "Don't be jealous," she said playfully.
Mon chuckled, brushing off Sam's concern. "It's okay, really," she said, turning to Nuea. "Go ahead, tell Sam."
Sam looked between them, curiosity evident in her eyes. "Tell me what?"
Nuea took a deep breath, his eyes locking onto Sam's. "Sam, there's something I need to confess. I've had feelings for you for a long time. I don't expect anything in return, and I know you love Mon. I just needed to get this off my chest."
Sam's eyes widened in surprise, her grip on Mon's hand tightening. "Nuea... I had no idea."
Nuea gave a small, sad smile. "I know. And that's okay. I just needed to say it before I return to the military camp."
Sam's worry eased slightly as she turned to Mon, her eyes searching for reassurance. Mon met her gaze with a tender smile, leaning in to kiss her gently.
"It's okay, Sam," Mon murmured softly. "Nuea already told me about his feelings for you."
Sam's eyes widened in surprise. "He did?"
Mon nodded, her fingers gently brushing Sam's cheek. "Yes, he did. But you have nothing to worry about. We both know where our hearts lie."
Sam let out a relieved sigh, leaning into Mon's touch. "I'm glad he was honest with us."
Mon squeezed Sam's hand, offering a reassuring smile as she turned to Nuea, gratitude evident in her eyes.
"Thank you, Nuea," Mon said sincerely. "For everything you've done for Sam and for being such a good friend."
Nuea nodded, his expression warm and genuine. "I love both of you, and I'll always treasure our friendship."
With a heartfelt hug, Nuea bid farewell, planting a kiss on Mon's forehead before turning to leave. But before he departed, he handed Sam an envelope.
Curious, Sam opened it to find a resort accommodation for two inside. She looked up at Nuea in surprise, unsure of how to react.
"It's a gift from me," Nuea explained with a smile. "For both of you to enjoy."
Sam was touched by Nuea's gesture, nodding her thanks as she watched him leave.
As the day stretched on, Sam began to feel restless. She approached Mon, who was engrossed in her work.
"Mon, I'm getting a bit bored. Do you think I could go out for a bit?" Sam asked, her tone hopeful.
Mon looked up from her documents, smiling warmly. "Of course, love. Just make sure you're back before my shift ends so we can go home early together."
Sam beamed, leaning in to give Mon a quick kiss. "Thank you. I promise I won't be long."
Mon chuckled softly, watching Sam head out the door. "Enjoy yourself, and be safe," she called after her.
As the day stretched to its end, Sam had not yet returned. Mon kept calling Sam's phone, growing more anxious with each unanswered call.
Minutes later, Sam finally arrived at Mon's office. Mon, a little irritated, asked, "Where have you been? I've been trying to call you!"
Sam, due to her pregnancy, tended to fall into bouts of self-pity. "Maybe you're already tired of taking care of me," she said, her voice wavering. "Maybe you're getting irritated with all my demands." She sulked even more, adding, "Maybe you don't love me anymore."
Mon couldn't help but adore how cute Sam looked when she sulked. She chuckled softly.
Sam, pouting, said, "You're laughing at me."
Mon, still smiling, replied, "It's because you're so cute when you sulk." She pulled Sam into a gentle hug. "I will never get tired of you." Mon pinched Sam's cheeks lightly, her eyes full of affection. "You're so adorable when you're pregnant."
Mon hugged Sam tightly, gently stroking her back. "Maybe it's just because you're pregnant, and that's why you're feeling so sensitive," Mon said soothingly. "But it's okay, really."
Sam's eyes filled with tears as she leaned into Mon's embrace. "I can't help it," she sniffled. "I just feel like everything is overwhelming sometimes."
Mon kissed the top of Sam's head and whispered, "I understand, and I'm here for you. Every step of the way. You never have to worry about me getting tired of you."
Sam looked up at Mon, her eyes shining with gratitude. "Thank you, Mon. I don't know what I'd do without you."
Mon smiled warmly, brushing a tear from Sam's cheek. "You won't ever have to find out. We're in this together, no matter what."
Mon kissed Sam gently on the lips, then pulled back with a smile. "Let's go home now," she said softly, still holding Sam close. "We need to prepare our things for the vacation our dear friend Nuea arranged for us."
Sam's eyes lit up with excitement. "I almost forgot about that! I can't wait."
Mon chuckled, helping Sam to her feet. "It's going to be amazing. Just the two of us, relaxing and enjoying each other's company."
Sam nodded, a content smile spreading across her face. "That sounds perfect."
Hand in hand, they left the office, both looking forward to the peaceful getaway that awaited them.
