ARIEL

It was Sunday evening. I had just gotten back from Griffin's a few hours ago and now I was in the kitchen, getting a snack.

"Ariel." I heard the now dreadful voice of my Uncle.

I turned and said a polite 'hello'.

"I understand you had an enlightening talk about the Consigliere vote with your boyfriend." He says. I look at him, wide eyed.

Lucia.

Shit. When would I learn? I can't trust anyone here. She's his daughter. Ofcourse she would pick to help him over keeping my secret. I just wanted her opinion on the matter, I never should have said what Griffin said to me.

He told me that. I should never have repeated it to an outsider.

"Im not going to give you intel, Zio." I huff, trying to walk past him but he grabs my wrist.

"Uncle Marco!" I rebuke.

"Lucy told me all about it, princess. There is nothing you'd tell me that I don't already know." he smirks. "Oh Ariel. So naive, so ingenuous." He taunts.

"Don't patronize me." I say through clenched teeth. "Let me go." I twist my wrist, wincing when he grips harder.

"Not till you tell me everything." he growls. I whimper.

"You're scaring me." I cry, tugging my hand away. He tightens his fingers. "God, please let me go." I sniffle.

"No!" He shouts, making me jump. "Now tell me, what did he say exactly." He asks. I purse my lips. "Something about how if McCall stepped down soon, they would elect the first on comer? Or was it that they had an especially important shipment coming?" He smirks.

I knew what he was doing. He was trying to irk me into spilling something more. Make myself even more incriminated. Nothing I would say would be news to him.

"He told me that if Consigliere McCall stepped down before Wednesday then they would be forced to elect another candidate quick. Now leave me alone." I snatch away my hand, running off towards my room.

I had to move out tomorrow. I couldn't possibly stay here. I was now officially scared of my own uncle.

Laying in my bed, I close my eyes and the image of Griffin's disappointed face makes me twist and turn till I finally give up.

It's so late and I have work tomorrow. My contract was ending on this Friday. Just 4 more days. I had a ticking clock, and a very stupid mistake, both of which I had to tell Griffin about.

I was screwed.

I spent all of last night twisting and turning, so I took my first sick day from work and slept in.

When I woke up around noon, the sense of impending doom was deep set as a I forced down a smoothie to ease my rumbling stomach.

I changed into a short, flowy summer dress and white sandals then left to go see him.
