The sun hung in the sky as the students gathered on the field for their first Physical Education class of the semester. Among them stood Mr Reed, the new PE teacher, tall and athletic, with an easy smile that seemed to put everyone at ease. He stepped forward, clearing his throat to capture the attention of the chattering students.
'Good morning, everyone! My name is Mr Reed, and I'll be your new PE teacher this year.' he announced, his voice projecting across the field. 'I'm excited to get to know each and every one of you and to help you reach your fitness goals.'
As he spoke, his gaze swept over the students, until it landed on Victoria, who was standing near the back of the group. Their eyes met, and in that moment, something unspoken passed between them. A spark of recognition that neither could explain.
Victoria felt her heart skip a beat as Mr Reed continued his introduction, her mind racing with questions. She needed to say something, anything, just to make sure she wasn't imagining things.
'Um, excuse me, Mr Reed?' she spoke up, her voice sounding smaller than she intended.
'Yes, what can I help you with?' Mr Reed replied, his eyes never leaving hers.
'Um, what kind of activities are we going to be doing in class?' she asked, trying to sound casual.
Mr Reed smiled, his eyes twinkling with amusement. 'We'll be doing a variety of activities, from traditional sports like football and basketball to more unconventional ones like rock climbing and yoga. I promise there'll be something for everyone.'
Throughout the PE lesson, Mr Reed couldn't seem to take his eyes off Victoria. He found himself drawn to her, watching her every move as she participated in the various activities. And when the time came for the group to go for a jog around the track, he found himself gravitating towards her.
'Mind if I join you?' he asked, falling into step beside her.
Victoria glanced at him, a mixture of surprise and suspicion in her eyes. 'Sure, I guess.' she replied, picking up her pace slightly.
As they jogged side by side, Mr Reed tried to make small talk, asking her about her classes and her hobbies. And Victoria was telling him, answering his questions politely.
'I couldn't help but notice that you seem to be avoiding me.' Mr Reed finally said, his tone gentle but probing. 'Is there something wrong?'
Victoria stopped in her tracks, turning to face him with a look of defiance. 'Not at all. I just... don't really like sports.' she said bluntly.
Mr Reed was taken aback by her straightforwardness, his expression faltering for a moment before he recovered. 'And why is that?'
'Not a sporty person. But maybe I'll end up liking it now.' Victoria smirks.
Mr Reed was taken aback again, and nodded at her with a slight smirk on his face.
As the PE lesson came to an end, Victoria couldn't shake the feeling that things between her and Mr Reed were far from over. She may have brushed him off for now, but she had a feeling that this was just the beginning of something she couldn't quite put her finger on.
Mia, Victoria's best friend, approached them with a curious look on her face, but she didn't say much. She simply raised an eyebrow, silently urging Victoria to spill the beans.
Victoria hesitated for a moment, unsure of how much to reveal. But then she sighed, realising that Mia wouldn't let it go until she got some answers. 'Mr Reed was just asking about school.' she said evasively, hoping to end the conversation.
Mia nodded, accepting Victoria's explanation without further comment. She glanced at Mr Reed for a moment, her expression unreadable, before jogging off to join the rest of the class.
As Victoria watched her go, she couldn't help but feel a sense of relief that Mia hadn't pressed her for more details. But at the same time, she knew there was definitely a spark between them. Sooner or later, she would have to confront whatever was brewing between her and Mr Reed.
