The party had finally wound down, the last few guests trickling out the door with tired but happy smiles. The backyard was a mess of confetti, streamers, and the occasional empty cup, but Victoria didn't mind. It had been the best night of her life, filled with laughter, dancing, and memories she'd cherish forever.
Victoria, Eric, and Mia sat on the couch in the now quiet living room, surrounded by the remnants of the party. Victoria was still buzzing from the excitement of the night, but she could see that her friends had something on their minds.
'Alright, spill it.' Victoria said, leaning back against the cushions. 'You two have that look.'
Mia and Eric exchanged glances before Mia spoke up. 'We saw Mr Reed, or should I say Alec, leave earlier. And we kind of noticed you two sneaking off during the party.'
Victoria felt her cheeks heat up. 'Oh. You saw that, huh?'
Eric leaned forward, a mischievous glint in his eyes. 'Yeah, we saw that. And we also saw how happy you looked when you came back. So, are you going to tell us what happened, or do we have to guess?'
Victoria sighed, a small smile playing on her lips. 'We talked, and we kissed. It was... intense.'
Mia reached over and squeezed Victoria's hand. 'I'm so happy for you, Vic. You've been holding this in for so long. It's about time something good happened.'
Eric nodded vigorously. 'Yeah, and you know what? You're eighteen now. You're legally an adult. It's not like he's some old creepy dude. He's young, and you're practically out of school.'
Victoria laughed, feeling a weight lift off her shoulders. 'Thanks, Eric. You always know how to put things in perspective.'
Mia smiled warmly. 'Look, Vic, this is your last week of school. You've got nothing to fear. No more hiding, no more sneaking around. If you really care about him, then you should go for it. Life is too short to worry about what other people think.'
Eric grinned, leaning back against the couch. 'Yeah, who cares about all those rumours or whatever? You've made it through high school. You survived the hardest part. Now it's time to live a little.'
Victoria felt a surge of gratitude and love for her friends. 'You guys are the best. I don't know what I'd do without you.'
Mia shrugged. 'Probably have a much less exciting life, but hey, what are friends for?'
Eric chuckled. 'Exactly. We're here to make sure you don't miss out on any adventures. And if Alec is one of those adventures, then we a hundred percent support you.'
Victoria felt tears prick at the corners of her eyes. 'Thanks, you two. I really needed to hear that.'
Mia hugged her tightly. 'Anytime, Vic. We've always got your back.'
Eric joined the hug, making it a group effort. 'Yeah, and don't worry about the mess. We'll help you clean up. After all, what are friends for?'
They all laughed, the tension melting away as they embraced. After a few moments, they broke apart and started to tidy up the living room, chatting and joking as they went. Victoria felt lighter than she had in a long time, the burden of the secrecy and fear lifted by the understanding and support of her friends.
As they worked, Eric kept the mood light with his usual antics. He put on a pair of oversized sunglasses he found on the floor and struck a pose. 'How do I look?'
Ridiculous.' Mia said, laughing.
'Perfect.' Victoria added, giggling.
Eric grinned. 'Ridiculously perfect, then. Just like this night.'
They finished cleaning up the living room and moved to the backyard, where they started picking up the confetti and streamers. The night air was cool, and the fairy lights still twinkled, casting a soft glow over the yard.
Victoria felt a sense of peace as they worked together, knowing that she had the best friends in the world. She knew there would be challenges ahead, but with Mia and Eric by her side, she felt ready to face anything.
After they had finished tidying up, they sat by the pool, dipping their feet in the water and enjoying the quiet of the night. The inflatable unicorn bobbed gently on the surface, a reminder of the fun they'd had.
'So, what's next for you and Alec?' Mia asked, breaking the silence.
Victoria shrugged, a smile playing on her lips. 'I don't know. We'll talk, figure things out. But for now, I'm just going to enjoy the moment and see where it takes us.'
Eric raised a glass. 'To Victoria and Alec. May their love story be as epic as tonight's party.'
They all laughed, clinking their glasses and toasting to the future. As they sat there, talking and dreaming about what was to come, Victoria felt a sense of hope and excitement. She knew that whatever happened, she had the love and support of her friends, and that was all she needed.
