Victoria's steps were heavy as she trudged home from school, her mind swirling with the events of the day. Mr Reed showing her the footage that had been a wake up call. She knew that she couldn't keep this secret any longer. If her mother found out from someone else, the fallout would be even worse. She had to come clean, no matter how terrified she was of the consequences.
As she approached the front door, she took a deep breath, trying to steady herself. Her hand trembled as she turned the knob and stepped inside. The familiar scent of home did little to calm her nerves.
'Mum? Sophia?' she called, her voice betraying her anxiety.
'In the living room, sweetie.' Charlotte replied.
Victoria made her way to the living room, where Charlotte was folding laundry and Sophia was engrossed in a book on the couch. Both looked up as she entered, sensing something was wrong.
'Victoria, what's the matter?' Charlotte asked, concern etched on her face.
Victoria's heart pounded in her chest. 'Mom, Sophia, I need to talk to you both. It's really important.'
Charlotte put down the laundry, and Sophia closed her book, her eyes wide with curiosity and worry. 'What is it?' Charlotte pressed, her voice tight with concern.
'Sit down, please.' Victoria said, her voice shaking.
Charlotte and Sophia exchanged a worried glance but did as she asked. Victoria sat across from them, her hands trembling. She felt like she might be sick, but she forced herself to speak.
'There's something I need to tell you.' she began, her voice barely above a whisper. 'It's about me and.... Mr Reed, my PE teacher.'
Charlotte's eyes widened in shock and confusion. 'What do you mean? What about Mr Reed?'
Victoria took a deep breath, tears welling up in her eyes. 'We've been seeing each other. It started a few months ago.'
Charlotte's face paled, her mouth opening and closing as she struggled to process the information. 'Seeing each other? You mean.... in a romantic relationship?'
Victoria nodded, unable to meet her mother's eyes. 'Yes.'
There was a moment of stunned silence before Charlotte's expression shifted to one of anger and hurt. 'What have you done?' she demanded, her voice rising. 'How could you do something like this, Victoria? He's your teacher!'
Sophia, sensing the tension, reached out and touched her mother's arm. 'Mum, let's just hear her out. Please.'
Charlotte took a deep breath, visibly trying to calm herself. 'Fine. Explain this to me. How old is he?'
Victoria looked up, her eyes pleading for understanding. 'He's twenty two. He's not that old, but I know it doesn't change the situation.'
Sophia spoke up, her voice soft but firm. 'Mum, maybe we should try to understand why this happened. Getting angry won't help right now.'
Charlotte's anger seemed to waver, replaced by a deep, pained confusion. 'Why, Victoria? Why would you do this?'
Victoria wiped away a tear that had escaped down her cheek. 'I don't know. I thought it was okay because we're not that far apart in age. But I know it's wrong now. I know it's messed up.'
Charlotte's eyes softened slightly, though the hurt was still evident. 'Oh, Victoria.' she said, her voice breaking. 'This is serious. He's your teacher. There are boundaries for a reason.'
'I know, Mom.' Victoria said, her voice shaking. 'I just... I wanted to tell you before you heard it from someone else. Mr Reed found out there's footage of us. Someone might report it.'
Charlotte closed her eyes, taking a deep breath, as if to steady herself. 'This is a lot to take in. I'm angry, but I'm also scared for you. We need to figure out what to do.'
Sophia squeezed her mother's hand. 'We'll get through this, mum. We just need to stay calm.'
There was a heavy silence, the weight of the situation pressing down on them. Just then, a knock sounded at the door, startling them all.
Victoria's heart leaped into her throat. Charlotte stood up, her face hardening with resolve. 'Who could that be?'
Victoria already knew. 'It's him.' she whispered.
Charlotte's eyes flashed with a mixture of emotions. She took another deep breath and walked towards the door, her movements slow and deliberate.
As she reached for the doorknob, Victoria and Sophia exchanged anxious glances. The door opened, and there stood Mr Reed, his face drawn and worried.
'Mrs Harrison, I need to speak with you.' he said, his voice steady but filled with tension.
