The In-between: Chapter 79

"Mother! Did you feel that giant shift? I was looking at the map to start planning strategies and surges began to-" Kiala paused as Kialis rushed past her and into the strategy room.

"I felt it, I feel it. Something strange is happening. Void is all over the place. He's surging the land with Black, releasing those creatures by the drove." Kialis shook her head, eying the 3D map made of magic, showing the terrain of the united Packlands.

"No, this is something else. This is unhinged and chaotic, like gates flinging open because all the locks came undone at once." Kialis enhanced the map, looking closer, trying to locate the biggest clusters. "Look at this, there is a ripple here as if something landed heavily in the Forest. This cluster is the largest, a sweeping arc towards the Mountain and Field's region. There is a box-like cluster pattern around the Meadow. It makes no sense for him to release this many without a proper way to sustain them."

"Is he not capable of irrational behavior if backed into a corner?"

Kialis watched the rapidly spreading specks on the map. "We have created a wall, but not a corner. This is something odd. Moon speaks," Kialis shared, looking at her weapon hung on the wall, its blade glowing. "Something has made the Black act erratic."

"Your Highness! Your Highnesses! Please come in! I repeat, please answer me! This is not a drill."

Kiala and Kialis glanced at each other before hurrying to an adjacent room where a giant reflective mirror sat. Its crescent shape washed in amethyst to become completely round, lighting with Tahalla's face. "Tahalla," Kialis narrowed her eyes at the background, "what is happening out there?"

"Pure fucking mayhem! Ahem, my apologies, my Queen. Utter chaos is what I meant to say. The land started to rock as if the Gods tickled it and these massive vine things just started to tear up every damn thing! It took far too much effort to hack one down! We thought the Meadow City would be torn to bits if they continued closer, but then they suddenly vanished. Problem is, those mindless Sha started to pour out of places like marbles and have surrounded any way out. It's not like they are advancing in any sort of pattern. It's like they got out but don't have anything telling them what to do. They learn fast though, some of the ones that can lead the others are already showing signs of collection. I can only assume they are hungry and want food. Anything on what Void's plan is?"

Kiala shook her head, knowing Tahalla could see them in her Source display. "Mother thinks something odd is happening. The Meadow has the only astronomy station. Do you think the Meadow has the means to look at the Mountains?"

"I can ask, do you think this was all to get to Sega?"

Kiala shook her head. "I don't know, but we are coming down again. We need to go to the Field first. They cannot fall into Void's hands at any cost. Go to the Meadow leaders and call me again if you can get visuals. We didn't send any soldiers there to give mother a visual." Kiala waited for the cut off before she turned to her mother. "We need to fortify my shield, mother. Father sleeps and heals there. He says it will take him a long time to break Void's chains, but he needs that time."

Kialis scoffed. Her mate had hidden himself even from her, but it seems he held trust in their daughter. "He didn't want me to find him, so he should be able to keep himself alive. He leaves me to govern everything on my own and expects me to tuck him in while he takes a nap for a reason he caused himself. You insult me."

"You owe him," Kiala growled, smacking her hands on the desk beneath the mirror. "No, you owe Naki, and for those three to thrive, they need help. This is beyond us. Moon and Sun place two together. Sega wields Night's power like no other. This could be a chance to finally balance out the magic of this world again, to fix the bond of the Gods so that we can thrive again as a people. You know the longer Moon and Night war, the more of us will be born without the ability to bear life."
