Chapter 4

"By the Gods, that's a lot of Blackers."

"Hey, what, no... no, absolutely not. What did I say about that name? I told you it's atrocious and sounds derogatory for some reason."

"What?" Minea huffed on his sturdy boulder he chose to stand on in the new, rocky terrain. "They are pitch black and they are biters! So Blackers."

"I thought it was because the are black fuckers," Naki looked at Teeka, "that's what it means?"

"It's Minea. You thought it had logic behind it?" Teeka shrugged her shoulders, "but Valas is going to punch him if he keeps saying it. You know he hates it."

"Because it sounds completely ridiculous. If they could understand, I don't think it would be a name they'd take kindly to. It just sounds wrong."

Minea narrowed his eyes at Valas. "How? Literally just two words put together. Sha sounds so boring and like it's just a short version of our species and those are nothing like us!"

Naki and Sylas exchanged a look, Naki's manlier features perfect at mimicking the very sassy expressions Sylas could create. Sylas' dainty nose turned up and Naki's rounded bulb mimicked the look of exhaustion.

"Did we not find you and Teeka turned? Or did you forget that part because it's been a long time? You think you have some status to judge them because Naki saved you? What if we decided to say screw you all and get to our destination without this train of misfits?"

"Sylas..." Minea huffed, his plush lips pursing. "Always with your logic. Whatever, I won't call them Blackers. What are we doing? We can't get through that. Naki would have to rain his power from the damn sky to get them all. Seems like the path to the Mountain City isn't going to happen. Also, does anyone see the two dome things?"

"Because we are blind and can't see them, Minea. What the fuck are we supposed to do with that?" Sylas looked over at Valas. "Minea is right though, the amount of those things is insane. It's as if they got to every nomad and rogue around the Field and Mountain."

Valas frowned, annoyed that it'd taken them years to get across a stretch of land that only took months, and now they faced something he had no clue about. "That has to be Sega on the Mountain. There is no other way. Vilence can feel Esga's power from here. I want to get there but the fact that we can see the Sha littering land from here is insane. What the hell has Void been up to? Why unleash them all like this and yet do nothing for years?"

"You are basically talking to yourself lover, I had very little knowledge in the first place and Naki is still as blank as an unwritten book. The most he still remembers is that he and Void landed in the Forest and crashed. He only ever recites something about it being in his head and that he hurt Void. So if Naki is at least right about that, there has to be something Naki did to make him lie low for a while."

"But whatever happened, it also caused the lands to shake and all these Sha to come out. I feel that Void kept them locked away or contained somehow and whatever happened three years ago must have made him lose control. They don't act as if something greater is commanding them right now. It seems like they come programmed with a basic formula to spread as much as possible."

"You guys are always talking about Void this and Void that." Teeka slapped Naki on the back. "I really can't see this wild child here taking out a big boss. Can he throw out sparkling power that turns the crazy beast to ash, yes. Can he make weapons out of nowhere, yes. Can he heal like we never got hurt in the first place and change us back from the creatures, also yes." Teeka arrowed her honey brown eyes, "but this clumsy hothead taking on the King of the wolf Zombies, I just can't see it."
