the quiet of grief

in the quiet room where shadows stretch,
death lingers like a whispered word,
so faint, so unreal, like mist on the breath,
you think they're just on vacation, absurd.

they're just away, you tell yourself,
somewhere the sun kisses the sea,
they'll walk through the door, like before,
as if they never left, as if they'll always be.

time ticks slow, each second a sigh,
but the heart clings to this fragile hope,
pretending they're near, just a blink away,
just out of sight, just beyond the scope.

and when the truth hits, it hits like a storm,
a tempest of pain, tearing at the seams,
it rips through the fabric of everyday life,
shattering the illusion of comforting dreams.

the heart aches with a hollow kind of grief,
a sorrow too deep for words to convey,
each memory a dagger, each thought a wound,
the weight of absence grows heavier each day.

the days feel endless, the nights too long,
each moment a reminder of what's lost,
their laugh, their touch, their presence gone,
leaving behind a silence embossed.

grief is a shadow that clings to the soul,
a constant companion, unyielding and cold,
it whispers their name in the dead of the night,
a cruel reminder, a story retold.

yet in the midst of this unbearable pain,
there lies a love that will never fade,
a bond that transcends the realms of life,
a light in the darkness, a love unafraid.
