17. | The Interview

It was our last day in New York, and Tasha had organised an interview.

However there was two problems, I refused to take any more time off from training, and I also hated interviews with a burning passion. During my career I had gained a nicked of '7 minutes Ricciardo' because after a tennis game, your required to give an interview at the press meeting afterwards, however I went searching and found that in the rules I'm only required to stay for 7 minutes, so I used it to my advantage. The second I stepped into the room my uncle would start a timer and the second it reached 7 minutes, even if I was mid question, I'd leave.

However now more than ever new channels, magazines, gossip sights, everything you can think of are offering absurd amounts of money to get even a minute interview with me. So somehow Daniel convinced me to take one of the highest offers, from a company I can tolerate. The only reason I'd agreed to it was cause Daniel said he'd do it with me.

The other slight problem was I refused to take more time off. So Tasha come up with a solution.

I'd train on the roof at the tennis court, and then after a while, when I needed a break I'd do my interview on the other side of the roof with Daniel.

Since I retired from tennis, my manager made it her life mission to make me as liked and respected as possible, if there even was such a thing. But she didn't have to look far for someone to help, Daniel was already globally famous for being the nice and funny guy.

So a year after my retirement me and Daniel made our first tv show together. We got into a suv, followed by a camera crew and traveled around Grease.

The show was a humongous success, one of the most watched tv shows of the year, before we knew it we were back on the road for a second season as we travelled around Mexico. We were getting offers from everywhere, everyone wanted us to star in their shows.

Years passed and now me and Daniel are one of the most famous duos in the world, every so often we do a new season of that original show, we get into an suv and travel around a new country.

But now, off the back of my return and Daniel getting more publicity than ever as he lost the world championship last season to Lewis by only 9 points, we're getting offers for a reality tv show, cameras would just follows us around for a while. And while it is tempting, the money they're offering is crazy, we've turned them all down.

"Okay let's do this Dan" I said, sitting down in the chair beside him.

We were sitting beside one another, the view of New York City behind us, as we faced two large camera and a women sat beside them.

"I'm Daniel and this is Delaney, lovely to meet you" Daniel spoke to the women

"I'm Amanda, an honour to meet you both" she smiled "now do you want to just jump straight into it?" She asked

"Of course, fire ahead" Daniel nodded

"So Delaney, to you first. In a recent press conference Nicki Li said, she was looking forward to playing you if the opportunity arises, however she is also looking forward to beating you when the opportunity presents itself, do you have anything to say to this?"

"I think Nicki needs to remember who she's talking about" I responded immediately "I've bet bet before, and I'll do it again. I respect Nicki I think she's a wonderful player, and I've very much looking forward to playing her"
