Third person's pov!

"How could you, Amma? I trusted you. I trusted you above everything and what did you do in return?" Shiva screamed and Durga Devi flinched at her son's harsh words.

"I did it for your own good, Shiva.." Durga Devi said, her voice still stern as ever.

"My own good? Framing my wife and separating me from the woman I love is what you did. And you claim it was for my own good. How did it do me any good?" Shiva questioned her furiously.

"You got a wife from a well reputed family and with a better financial background.." Durga Devi pointed out.

"Family reputation and financial stability is far more important than love, respect and peace in a marital life, is that it?" Shiva asked sarcastically.

"You are blinded by your love for that unworthy girl. Come out of it and look at the fortune you got.." Durga Devi said arrogantly.

"I hate you! I hate you for what you did to me. You ruined my marriage and separated me from my Vaiga. I will never forgive you.." Shiva screamed and Durga Devi felt her heartbeat stopping for a moment.

Durga Devi woke up with a start when she heard the key turning in the lock of the main door.

"Where have you been, Hansi?" Durga Devi asked her daughter in law who just walked into the house a little after eleven at night. She was still reeling from the nightmare she just had..

What would happen if Shiva finds out the truth? He will hate her. But nobody will reveal it to Shiva. She still has the photographs that can keep Raghuswamy under the leash, Durga Devi thought with a smirk.

Hansika rolled her eyes before pasting an exaggerated smile on her face.

"It was my close friend's birthday party, aunty. I told you before going." Hansika said and Durga Devi took a deep breath as she glared at the girl for whom she fought with everyone.

"You left home in the morning, Hansi. You should have returned home before eight. It is half past eleven already." Durga Devi said, her disapproval evident in her voice.

"Well, I am not Vaiga to dance to your tunes, aunty." Hansika said sarcastically and Durga Devi's eyes widened in horror.

Hansika was never the ideal daughter in law she dreamed of. It was evident from the very first day. She refused to step foot into the kitchen no matter what. Durga Devi hated strangers in the kitchen, so she outrightly refused the chef Hansika's parents arranged. So, it is upon Durga Devi to look after the kitchen duties. But it was Hansika's parents who always spoke. Hansika's mother, Durga's college mate and close friend was married into a well settled family and Hansika always had a crush on Shiva. That was the reason why Durga had fought with Shiva. All for what?

But even then, she had pretended to be nice all these days. This was the first time Hansika had openly used sarcasm against Durga Devi.

"Hansika..." Durga Devi's warning tone boomed across the walls of the living room and Hansika laughed it off.

Shiva was on a trip with the college students and he won't be back for another two days.

"Don't raise your voice, aunty. I am not interested in having an argument with you. I am too tired for this nonsense.." Hansika said in a dismissive tone and Durga Devi's bewilderment grew more and more.

"You are showing your true colours when Shiva isn't here..." Durga accused, pointing her index finger directly at Hansika and Hansika laughed out loud.

"You and I both know who shows their true colours in Shiva's absence. Isn't that right, aunty?" Hansika asked with a smirk..

"How dare you?" Durga Devi screamed as she raised her hand to slap Hansika, but Hansika quickly held hand and pushed her back.

"Relax, aunty. And think twice before raising your hand against me. Because, I won't think twice before filing a domestic violence case against you.." Hansika said in a calm tone and Durga Devi stared at her in horror.

She had fought with her son for this girl. She had played cruel games to separate her son and daughter in law so that she could bring this girl home as her daughter in law. And now this girl, who she had watched growing up is threatening to file a domestic violence case against her. Durga Devi felt weak.

"If I can bring you into my son's life, I can as easily throw you out too.." Durga Devi warned, knowing well how madly Hansika is in love with Shiva.

"You mean just like how you threw Vaiga out?" Hansika asked sarcastically.

"Shiva was in love with Vaiga. Still I could easily throw her out. He doesn't even love you, Hansi. It would be a piece of cake for me.." Durga Devi wasn't ready to back down.

Hansika's face hardened when Durga Devi pointed out that Shiva isn't in love with her. She has been in love with Shiva as long as she could remember. In the face of her love, nothing else mattered to her. Not even Vaiga or her pregnancy. All that mattered to her was Shiva. But she hated Durga Devi. She had always been nice to the old woman only for Shiva's sake.

"Funny, isn't it aunty? Have you wondered what would happen if Shiva came to know that you had played him. That it was a drama you created that separated him and the woman he loved?" Hansika asked cruelly and all blood drained from Durga's face.

She knows her son would never forgive her if he finds out. Because he was so madly in love with Vaiga.

"And just think what would his reaction be, when he comes to know that Vaiga had been pregnant with his child too? And that the emotional trauma you gave her caused her miscarriage.. Uh oh! He will hate his mother to the core.." Hansika said, pretending to pity her mother in law.

Durga Devi watched in horror as her daughter in law walked into the bedroom humming a song.

She felt the ground beneath her feet slipping off..
