You felt yourself fiddling with the cowl of your school uniform. It had been so long since you last wore it, you had forgotten how itchy it was.

That or the nerves of finally going back to school were making you break out. You really hoped it was the former.

You looked over to Eda, who was fiddling with her jacket as she pulled Owlbert away from his resting position against the sofa.

"You ready, kid?"
Eda turned to look at you, before her smile faltered.

"Where's Luz?"
She asked as you watched her brow furrow in confusion.

"I think she's still in bed. Her echo mouse doesn't seem to be playing nice."
You replied, knowing the only reason that you got up earlier than her were the nerves in your gut and King hogging your sheets.

The Owl Lady rolled her eyes and smiled, sliding Owlbert into your hands and walking up the stairs to Luz's bedroom.

Owlbert was in his staff form, you felt the varnish of the gloss over the palistrom's wood grain.

You'd never thought about having a staff.
Since you were destined for the emperor's coven, you'd never need one. Belos would just take yours away after all.

"Come on Eda, we gotta fly!"
Luz sprinted down the stairs in a colourful blur; the cowl of her uniform bounced as she jumped up and down. You tried your best not to look startled.

"Are you sure your staff can fit three people?"
You asked, looking up to Eda, knowing she was your only ride to school, since your house was no longer in walking distance.

"As long as none of us bother King awake, we'll be fine."
The Owl Lady sent you a wink and smirked, you let a smile grow on your face.

"No more bonding time, it's time to get to school!"
Luz had her hands on your back and excitedly shoved you through the door, Eda following suit after you.

Part of you wondered why Luz was so excited today.

After a snap of her fingers, Owlbert flashed to life and started floating in the air, waiting for passengers.
Eda took the front, and squished you between her and Luz, to make sure you wouldn't fall off.

Rolling your eyes, you agreed. You were perfectly capable of riding a staff. Sure, it had been at least a couple weeks since you were last on one, but that doesn't mean you had forgotten.

You had to wrap your arms around Eda's waist to make sure you didn't fly off.
You didn't realise Eda was the type to break the speed limit.

In hindsight, you should have.
