———

Eda was tapping her fingers against the kitchen table, stress printing lines into her face.

The clock read 3:56am.

Your eyes had bags carved into them.
The palms of your hands held your head up as you slumped forward in your chair.

You went home immediately after your failure at palisman adoption day. You couldn't handle doing the rest of your lessons, even if your teachers were going to be more lax with you.

There was something missing in the room. A lack of life you were used to.
When exchanging glances with one another, you and Eda both looked dead.

You heard the handle of the door turn.

Luz Noceda walked through the door, seemingly more tired than you were.
The stress and worry in your head was starting to subside.

A sigh of relief finally fled your lips.

"Where were you!?"
Eda tried to stop herself from yelling, but she couldn't. The panic in her words was making her shake.

Luz stuttered on a few letters and grabbed her cape, digging her fingernails into the fabric and creasing it.

"I just wanted a palisman..."
You could see everyone's eyes grow soft as Luz kept talking.
"B-but, something bad happened."

That's why the window to your room was open...

Eda cursed herself for getting so riled up, seeing the visible tears streaming down Luz' cheeks.

The Owl Lady pulled her apprentice into a hug,
"Hey, Y/N. Can you make us all drinks please?"

Feeling yourself nod in response, you stood up and moved to the kitchen counters before turning on the kettle.

At least Luz was home safe...

———

It took a while for Luz and Eda to calm down.
The three of you were sat around the kitchen table, trying to stay quiet since King managed to still be asleep.

You held a drink in your hands, a warm one, arms stretched out in front of you, wrapping your palms around the mug.

It was getting harder to keep yourself awake.

Eda sighed,
"Y/N woke up in the middle of the night and realised you were gone."

Remembering walking into Eda's room, the nerves of her superiority reflected on you.
