It was evening when we finally woke up, Austin was curled behind me, his breath fanning across the back of my neck. His arm was draped across me and his fingers were tucked between my thighs just above my knees. He took a deep breath, his nose against the skin of my neck and kissed me. He ran his hand up my thigh and over my hip as he groaned and stretched behind me, smacking his lips and yawning loudly.
"You sound like a big bear waking up from a nap." I said as I pulled his hand to my lips and let out a sleepy giggle as I kissed the bear inked on the top of his hand. "Sleep well baby?" I asked.
"I've slept better the past two days than I have in longer than I can remember darlin. I don't know what the fuck I'm gonna do without an afternoon nap once we are back on the road." He laughed. It was deep and raspy thick and I felt it deep in my belly. I smiled and rolled in his arms to face him.
His face was soft with sleep, pink pillow creases on his cheek and his eyes were still half closed. His hair was wild and fluffy, and so was his beard and I had to giggle.
"You even look like a big sleepy bear." I took his face in my hands and raked my fingers through his beard soothing it down. He smiled and closed his eyes and let out a content sigh. "These creases on your cheek are the sure sign of a good nap." I said leaning in and kissing the marks softly.
"I think my arm being dead asleep under your neck is a pretty good sign too. I'd stay here for a few more hours if I didn't have to piss so bad. Can I get up or will you threaten me again?" He closed one eye and scrunched his face like I might yell. I giggled and kissed him tugging lightly on his beard.
"No threats. Go, I need to get my bag anyway. It never made it in here last night." I said as he let out a relieved sigh and rolled out of the bed with another groan and stretch.
"You want me to start the shower darlin?" He said as he walked into the bathroom.
"Yeah, I won't be but a second." I said as I got up and grabbed the tee shirt I had pulled off of him last night and pulled it on. I smelled like him and it made my whole body feel warm.
It was kind of crazy when I thought about it. The way he makes me feel about him now. But even more, it made me think back to how I really felt all those times we had spent together. The times when we both knew one of us made a lame excuse to be around each other, but we never spoke of it. Some days it did seem he came there to escape, just sitting in the green velvet wingback chair in the corner of my work room responding to emails, reading over contracts, sometimes taking long and extremely boring sounding one sided phone calls. He always said that he came there when he needed quiet. "No one bothers me here.." he would say. When he was there I always felt that same warm buzz that I feel around him now, only it's so much stronger. I thought his naturally warm and happy aura just rubbed off on me when he was around. Now... I realized maybe I was seeking something from him I didn't actually know I needed.
I wasn't lying when I had told him earlier I felt like I had my best friend back. He had been there for me for a lot of shit over the years. He would use me to vent his frustrations when Dre or Louis were on his last nerve. I would ask his advice with business related things, and he would spend hours with me some evenings just helping me search the internet for things for the shop. We have inside jokes, know how each other likes their coffee (and their steaks) and have memories with each other no one else would understand.
I had a million thoughts swirling in my head as I gathered the few things I had taken from my bags when I had gotten ready for our date. Everything felt so easy and natural between the two of us. Last night, after my initial nerves melted away, there was nothing awkward or uncomfortable about our... intimate encounter. It was like we knew each other already in this way, but it still had the rush of new excitement.
