"Stiles, I'm pretty sure this is considered breaking and entering-"

"Jo, I literally have a key-"

"-that WASN'T given to you!"

Stiles simply rolled his eyes, fishing the key to the McCall house out of his pocket as Josie stared at him incredulously, wishing she had chosen to do anything else other than help these two idiotic boys tonight. More so, she was cursing the entire existence of the supernatural right now for putting her in this situation.

"Relax, Melissa has known me for years," Stiles waved her off, sliding the key into the lock and opening the door for them both. "I'm practically family."

"Family that wasn't given a key," Josie mumbled to herself as she walked past him into the foyer of the McCall home, not missing the eyeroll from Stiles as he followed her in.

Neither of the teens got a chance to say anything else as a woman, that Josie presumed would be Scott's mom Melissa, rounded the corner and ran straight into them with wide eyes.

"...Stiles?" he smiled sheepishly, and the woman's eyes turned down to his hand. "A...key?"

"Yeah, I uh, had one made, so..."

"That doesn't surprise me. It scares me, but it doesn't surprise me," Melissa's gaze turned, landing on the girl beside Stiles as she paused for a moment, mouth dropping open slightly. "Oh..."

"Right!" Stiles shook his head, realizing he'd just dragged a girl that Melissa didn't know into her home. "Uh, Melissa this is-"

"Josephine,"

The red head held a small smile, nodding as she stared apprehensively at the woman. She should've put it together sooner, Scott really did look so much like his mom, she should've recognized him at the least. She should've been able to piece it together sooner.

Melissa McCall had been the nurse who'd held her in the hospital that night.

"It's nice to see you again, Ms. McCall," Josie managed to get out, giving the woman a small wave. "I'm sorry for barging- well, I'm sorry for Stiles barging in-"

"Just call me Melissa, that's what most of them do. And it's very nice to see you too, Josie. Curious as to how you landed yourself in the company of these two dumbasses, but..." Melissa trailed off, her eyes diverting to the duffel bag that Stiles had dropped onto the ground with a clang inside. "What is that?"

Stiles fumbled for a moment, still looking between the two women in the room as he tried to wave it off.

"Just a school project..."

Melissa looked between the two teens before her, before settling her gaze back on Stiles.

"Scott...he's okay right?" the older woman asked her son's best friend with a sad smile. "He just...doesn't talk to me the way he used to."
