Sun shining as high as bright in the sky, all over the trees. Animals coming out of the bushes, the trees, looking around in curiosity before running away from their homes.
The tent remains intact, all dried but the fire having now faded away from the wood. Inside, only Mary sleeping on the ground with a blanket all around her. Opening her eyes after yawning, looking around, realising Connor isn't around but Melody remains by her side. Feeling completely relaxed.
"Oh hey little fella." She squeaks happily. She takes another look around but he's nowhere to be found. Where is he?
Coming out of the tent, looking around as her vision remains a bit blurred.
"You're awake." Hearing his voice, she turns her head back to him. Having caught a deer for them to have breakfast. Unsure what they're going to have for dinner but would be something cool for Connor to teach her.
"How long have I been asleep?" She asks.
"You fell asleep straight away when we arrived back in the tent." He laughs. She laughs back, having just remembered.
What a night they both had after watching the fishes in the water joining together in a pack, jumping up and down out of the water. A beautiful view before Connor decided to return back to the tent, feeling it's been a while now since they've been out in the dark and that it would be safe for them to be inside and take the remainder of their rest there.
Mary was really tired, so he held her hand, making sure she doesn't fall as they take a careful walk back into the tent. Before she drops herself into something comfortable. It was really funny. What she did, made him laugh a lot. Something he hasn't done for a long time.
But she was so cute sleeping like that, enough for him to lay the blanket all over her, keeping her warm before going to his own bed, falling asleep.
She would continue sleeping for a while as Connor woke up. He thought about waking her up but she looked really comfy so he decided to leave her and catch some breakfast for the both of them. Melody woke up and immediately saw him about to leave but he told her to remain with Mary for the time being, he'll be fine. The squirrel was unsure about it but Connor was really convincing so Melody agreed, reluctantly.
"How were you able to catch the deer?" After removing some meat from the corpse for him to cook after grabbing another pile of wood for the two of them to cook the meat.
"You sound surprised?" He smiles. Mary laughs, it is surprising for her. She doesn't have the experience this little child has.
"I am surprised." He laughs.
"Don't forget. You may be older than me but I have more experience being in these woods than you." She laughs, agreeing over that matter.
Half an hour ago, the weapon he would bring to kill the deer was a spear. Having learned how to do it by himself. Took him a couple of tries to get it right. Once he got them all right, he decided to give them a try. His first test, able to hit a bird in the sky with amazing accuracy. He did feel sorry for the bird, having cried over it as the bird was his first ever kill.
As such, he chose to only kill ones like deers, fishes, as well as animals that are considered dangerous for him to handle for food and survival.
For the deer he was able to catch for Mary and himself, he threw the spear and hit the neck. Making the deer fall onto the side as the spear remains still on its side, refusing to let go. The deer struggles to breathe from the impact Connor has just given the animal. Hearing those sounds from dying animals is really hard.
He's still a child in his mind and body, he wouldn't want to see an animal die in front of him. Just like how he lost his father when he ran towards him and see him breathe one last time.
