WHERE IS PARKER?!” Jameson shouts out loud at his workers.
“I’m sure he will be here very soon,” Robertson reassures his boss.
“Hey, sorry I am late.” Peter comes in through the door with photos of Spider-Man in his hand.
“Where on God’s earth have you been?!” Jameson looks like a tomato with how red his face is.
“Well, I met a man named Derick Phillips. He was asking for money so I bought him breakfast and gave him some cash. I think I convinced him to go back to medi-” Peter was interrupted by Jameson shouting.
“You were late to help some worthless hobo!” The publisher was furious. “Parker, I needed those pictures thirty minutes ago!”
“Oh, no he is not worthless, Jameson. He lost his fam-”
“I don’t care! What good can a homeless man ever contribute to society!”
“That’s uncalled for Mr. Jameson. I’m sure he is a great man Peter.” Robbie takes the pictures and hands them to Jameson who looks for the photo that makes Spider-Man look the most menacing.
Peter gets his check and starts to walk towards Betty’s desk to cash it but he had something to say. “You shouldn’t judge someone so hard just because of how much money they make. I see Mr. Phillips doing great things in the future” After that Peter walks out of the room.
“I will never respect a homeless man. They are the second-worst part of society after those superpowered freaks!”
Betty Brant, Robbie Robertson, May Reily, John Jameson Jr, and Peter Parker are all at a hospital together waiting for the operation to finish.
“I hope he’s ok.” Betty is crying into Peter’s shoulder.
Peter strokes her hair while holding back a smile as he knows something the others don’t. “I am sure he will be fine, I know the doctor he is the best in the state.” Peter continues to stroke her hair as she sobs.
A few hours later the operation was a success and they could go see Jameson when he woke up. Peter got to go first as he was the only one who wasn’t crying and Jameson hates to see people cry over him. He says it makes him look weak and he surely wouldn’t want that even if he just had a deadly tumor removed from his brain.
“Hey, JJ.” Peter greets as he walks into the room.
“Ah, Parker, come in. I would like to thank you for finding the doctor that saved my life. It must have cost a fortune.”
“Actually, all it cost was breakfast and a $50 bill.” Peter gets that knowing smile again.
“What?! You must be joking. How much did it really cost to get Dr. Phillips to do the operation?” Jameson asks ignoring what Parker had said before.
“Jameson, the doctor is Derick Phillips. That was the man that I bought lunch for years ago and I was late to work. You said that homeless people were worthless, but someone who was homeless just saved your life.”
Jameson looks like he knows it’s true but he is unwilling to accept the truth. “No. How could a homeless man save me? How could he even be a doctor!?”
“Jonah, I tried to tell you I convinced him to go back to medical school to graduate and become a doctor. He quit after his wife and daughter were murdered, he gave up and lost the will to do anything, and eventually got evicted from his apartment. He scraped by on the streets until I met him and talked some sense into him about how his family wouldn’t want him to stop living when he could live FOR them.”
“So I was wrong. I guess I should apologize to him.”Peter calls in Dr. Phillips before leaving Jameson to talk with the man.
“...I would like to apologize.” Jameson swallowed his pride and did the manly thing.
“For what?” Derrick was very confused and thought Jameson might have some brain damage from the operation.
“The day you met Par- Peter I may have said that homeless people were worthless and now I know that I was wrong. I am sorry.”
“Apology accepted. It’s funny, Peter was the one who woke me up and got me to finish school to become a doctor. If he’d have gone to work on time instead of talking to me over breakfast, then I wouldn’t have been able to save your life today.” This really opens up Jonah’s eyes to how important it is to help others. It also makes him smile thinking about how much money he would make from publishing this story.
Both publisher and doctor were unaware that Spider-Man was recording them from the window.
