Engfa quickly composed herself, plastering a polite smile on her face as Faye approached them.

"Faye," she greeted, her voice cool and formal.

Faye gave her a nod in response, her expression unreadable. Her gaze then turned to Charlotte who was standing beside Engfa, looking slightly bewildered by the sudden arrival of Engfa's sister.

"And who is this?" Faye asked, her eyes wandering over Charlotte from head to toe, her gaze assessing.

Engfa felt a pang of jealousy at Faye's gaze, the way her sister was looking at Charlotte, looking at her like she was a piece of meat.

"This is Charlotte," Engfa said, her tone a bit curt.

Faye raised an eyebrow at Engfa's words, clearly sensing the possessive edge in her sibling's voice. Her eyes flicked back to Charlotte, studying her a few moments more before she spoke again.

"Charlotte, huh?" she repeated, her tone nonchalant.

Charlotte shifted awkwardly under Faye's intense gaze, feeling a bit self-conscious. "H-hi," She gave a tentative smile and a small wave, unsure of how to respond.

Engfa could feel the tension in the air, and she fought the urge to put her arm around Charlotte's waist to make it clear that she was hers.

"What are you doing here?" Engfa asked, her voice cool and polite.

Faye shrugged, leaning against the car casually. Her eyes flicked back and forth between Engfa and Charlotte, a small smile tugging at the corner of her mouth.

"Can't I visit my younger sister unannounced once in a while?" she said, her voice dripping with faux innocence.

Engfa's change in demeanor was striking. Her expression had darkened, her eyes cold and hard as she stared down her sister. It was a complete contrast to the playful and sarcastic woman Charlotte had grown used to.

"Cut the crap," Engfa said, her voice sharp. "We both know you're not here for a social call. So spit it out, what do you want?"

Charlotte felt a pang of fear and unease as she watched Engfa and Faye size each other up like two predators circling each other. She had never seen Engfa like this before.

She took a small step closer to Engfa, instinctively seeking her protective presence.

Engfa glanced down at Charlotte, seeing the fear and uncertainty in her eyes. Instinctively, she reached out and wrapped an arm around her waist, pulling her closer to her side. It was a clear display of ownership.

Faye smirked, noticing Engfa's possessiveness.

"So, this is the reason you're distracted from work," she said, her tone derisive. "You're playing house with your new toy."

Engfa bristled at Faye's words, her grip on Charlotte's waist tightening almost instinctively.

"She's not a goddamn toy," Engfa growled.

Faye chuckled, clearly enjoying the reaction she was getting from Engfa.

"Oh, really?" she said, her tone laced with sarcasm.

"She sure looks like that right about now," she said, her gaze flickering down to Engfa's hand on Charlotte's waist.

Faye's lips curled into a smirk as she spoke. "You know, if you're not careful, someone might try and take your toy from you," she said, her tone mocking.
