The van comes to a stop. Charlotte slowly opens her eyes once more, blinking as she takes in the new surroundings.
She looks out the window. The van is parked at the end of a dirt road, surrounded by lush greenery and towering trees. The air is fresh and filled with the scent of pine and earth.
Charlotte, still a bit disoriented, turns to Davika, confusion clear on her face. "Where... Where are we?"
Davika smiles, her arms going around Charlotte in a somewhat possessive hug.
"Our new home," she replies, her voice a soft murmur against Charlotte's ear.
Charlotte feels a shiver run down her spine as Davika pulls her closer.
Charlotte, feeling the hug growing a little too tight, wriggles out of Davika's arms. She gazes up at her, concern etched on her face.
"How far are we from the city?" Charlotte asks, her voice tinged with worry. "I... I need to go back for my grandma..."
Davika's expression falters briefly. She hadn't known about Charlotte's grandmother, and it seems Engfa had gone out of her way to keep that fact concealed.
She schools her features into a composed mask before answering. "Don't worry about her, I'll look for her and take her here soon as well" she replies smoothly.
.
A week has passed since Davika took Charlotte to the countryside. The time has been a strange mix of tranquility and unease for Charlotte. She has grown somewhat accustomed to the quiet countryside, the peaceful surroundings.
Charlotte often finds herself drawn to the wide windows, watching the sunlight filtering through the trees and creating dappled patterns on the wall.
As always, after staring at the window, she would always walk to the garden and stare into nothingness.
Her face is solemn as she sits amongst the blooming flowers. She reaches out, tracing the petals of a flower. A tear slips down her cheek.
Engfa's face, her smiles, her touches, her voice. All of it haunts Charlotte. The betrayal, the heartache, is like a constant thorn under her skin. She has tried to bury it deep within, but the memories keep resurfacing.
Charlotte's hands grip the flower, her knuckles turning white. She whispers to herself, the pain and hurt evident in her words.
"Why...why did you enter my life if it's just going to end up like this?" Her voice quivers. "Why...Why did you make me fall for you again, just to toy with me?" Her voice breaks a little.
"I-is this revenge? Is this...revenge for disappearing years ago?" The last words come out as a choked-back sob.
Charlotte pulls at the flower, the petals tearing and falling to the ground. The pain, the confusion, all of it pouring out through a few words and a fragile flower.
