Jack was resting after a long night of working the night shift when his phone started ringing. Loudly, at that.
He groans, exasperated, and picks it up without checking the contact.
"Hello?"
"Jack? M-My car isn't starting and my presentation is in three hours and it takes two hours and a half, I still have to get to campus. I didn't know who else to call. C-Can you please help me?"
He sits up. "Yeah, gimme like five minutes to throw something on and get there."
"Please hurry, I can't be late." He pleads as he hangs up the phone.
Jack quickly puts on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt and rushes to make himself, look in the very least, presentable. He rushes downstairs and speeds all the way to his house.
Jack parks by the sidewalk and sees Zach wiping his hands on a piece of fabric. He steps out of the car and goes to him.
He takes a look at Zach. His hands were shaking. He seemed like he was two seconds away from crying. "Are you okay?" Jack asks worriedly.
"I've changed the oil. It has water. I don't know why it's not working, and I'm freaking out!" His voice quivers.
Jack holds his hands. "I'll take a look at it. Splash some water on your face, okay?"
Zach nods and heads inside as he wipes his tears.
The curly head takes a look at it and realises that, in fact, he doesn't know much about cars. But he'd be damned if he wasn't going to help Zach.
He steps in the driver's seat and turns the car on, except it doesn't start. Not even the electrical parts.
Jack hums as he thinks. An idea pops into his head. With the car still dead, he moves it closer to his own and makes sure it's secure.
Then, he moves to his trunk, where he grabs some cables from it. Jack pops the hoods of both cars open and connects the cables to the batteries.
Zach steps out as Jack orchestrates this. The curly head signs Zach to go to his car.
Jack starts his own car, and subsequently, Zach's car starts. He takes a breath of relief.
Zach steps out of his car and runs to press a firm kiss onto his lips. "You saved my life! Thank you!" He hugs him.
Jack smiles widely. "It was no trouble." He reassures.
Zach practically squeezes him.
"However, it's best if you take my car. I don't want you getting stranded in the middle of the highway." He suggests.
The brunet looks at him worriedly. "What if I accidentally -"
"I can drive you there." He reassures.
"You worked the whole night. It's not fair -"
"You stayed with me the whole night, too." He reminds him. "Allow me."
Zach hesitantly nods, and let's go of Jack. "Okay... but I'll pay for the gas."
Jack rolls his eyes. "Put your car in the garage. We can't be late."
The brunet rushes to do just that and grabs all his things, including a lunch box. Meanwhile, Jack made sure that everything in his car was in order before they left.
Zach enters the passenger seat and sets his phone on the little holder with the itinerary ready.
"Where to?" Jack asks curiously.
