Song for this chapter: Somebody to tell me by Tyler Glenn
Andres' POV:
I woke up with a heavy head, the weight of last night still lingering in my bones. Groggily, I pushed myself out of bed, trying to shake off the remnants of a restless sleep. As I stumbled towards the bathroom, the distant sound of voices caught my attention. My mother was engaged in conversation with someone in the living room. Curious, I hurriedly finished in the bathroom and made my way downstairs.
To my surprise and relief, standing in the hall were my Aunt Cheryl and my cousin Seb. The sight of them was like a ray of sunshine breaking through the clouds of my turmoil. I couldn't help but break into a smile as I greeted them.
"Aunt Cheryl! Seb!" I exclaimed, my voice filled with genuine happiness.
Aunt Cheryl turned towards me with open arms, a warm smile lighting up her face. "Andres, my dear! Look at you, all grown up!" She engulfed me in a tight hug, her affectionate embrace offering comfort I hadn't realized I needed.
"As if we didn't meet last month aunty!" I said with a chuckle as she released me from the hug.
Seb, always the joker, stepped forward and playfully nudged my shoulder. "Hey, cuz! Long time no see. Miss me?"
I grinned at him, feeling grateful for his light-hearted approach. "Of course, Seb! Who else would annoy me like you do?"
Seb pretended to clutch his heart dramatically. "Ouch! That hurts, Andres. Right in the feels!"
Aunt Cheryl chuckled at our banter, her eyes filled with maternal warmth. "Alright, you two troublemakers. Settle down. Andres, sweetheart, you look like you could use a good breakfast."
My stomach rumbled at the mention of food, and I nodded eagerly. "Yes, Aunt Cheryl, I could definitely use some breakfast."
She ushered us all into the kitchen, where the tantalizing aroma of French toast casserole greeted us. Aunt Cheryl had sprinkled it with maple syrup and a pinch of cinnamon, making it even more enticing. Alongside it, there were glasses of freshly squeezed orange juice, a perfect complement to the meal.
As we settled around the table, Aunt Cheryl served us generous portions of the casserole, making sure to heap extra servings onto my plate.
Seb flashed me a mischievous grin as Aunt Cheryl served up a generous portion of her famous French toast casserole. "Hey, Andres, look at you, getting babied" he teased, nudging me playfully.
I rolled my eyes, taking a bite of the delicious casserole. "Oh, come on, Seb. You know you'd love it too if she fed you like this," I retorted, my mouth half full.
Aunt Cheryl chuckled warmly, leaning over to offer me another spoonful of the casserole. "Here you go, sweetheart. Don't worry, I'll make sure Seb gets his share of pampering as well as scolding too, I haven't beaten him up in a while" she said glaring towards Seb.
Seb mockingly widened his eyes, holding up his hands in surrender. "Alright, alrighh mom! You don't need to mention this now!" he said dramatically earning a smack from aunty.
As the conversation flowed, I found myself relaxing for the first time since last night's turmoil. Seb's presence and Aunt Cheryl's nurturing warmth were exactly what I needed to chase away the shadows that had haunted me. For a moment, I allowed myself to forget the worries that had weighed me down.
"Aunt Cheryl, this French toast is amazing," I said between bites, genuinely appreciative of her cooking.
She beamed at me, her eyes filled with affection. "I'm glad you like it dear. You know I'm always gonna spoil you whenever I visit here," she replied fondly.
