Song for the chapter: Sexy, free and Single by Super Junior
Edvin's POV:
High school life for me is a series of effortless days, blending fun, friends, and fleeting concerns about the future. With Andres, Jeremiah, and Audrey by my side, every day has its share of excitement. Andres, especially, has been happier lately, and seeing my best friend in such a good place brings a smile to my face too.
The afternoon sun streamed through the large windows of the library, casting a warm glow over the study tables. I sprawled out on a couch nearby, glancing at my friends who were huddled over their textbooks, deep in conversation about universities and upcoming exams.
Andres leaned back in his chair, a thoughtful expression on his face. "I've been thinking about applying to Princeton for their SEAS (School of Enginnering and Applied Science) program.
Audrey nodded, her eyes shining with excitement. "Yeah, I've heard that too. I'm leaning towards Yale for SEAS program too. What about you, Edvin?"
I sighed dramatically, waving my hand dismissively. "But guys, we're still only in the second year of high school. Why are you planning to go to university so early? It's not like we have SATs this year. Those are still two years away."
Andres chuckled, shaking his head. "You can go ahead and enjoy, Edvin. We need to focus on our studies. I've already started planning my elective subjects and working on maintaining a high GPA."
Audrey laughed softly, her gaze returning to her notes. "Yeah, Edvin, some of us actually care about our grades and futures. We have to start preparing now if we want to get into top universities."
I sulked for a moment, slumping further into the couch. "You guys are no fun," I muttered, crossing my arms. "What's the point of all this studying if you don't enjoy life a little?"
Andres looked up, his eyes meeting mine with a hint of a smile. "We enjoy life, Edvin. We just balance it with our responsibilities."
I rolled my eyes, sitting up and leaning forward. "Come on, guys. Just one movie. It won't kill you to take a break and have some fun. We can hit the books harder afterward, I promise."
Audrey exchanged a glance with Andres, her resolve wavering. "Well, a short break wouldn't hurt, right?"
Andres sighed, finally closing his textbook. "Alright, alright. But just one movie, Edvin. Then it's back to studying."
A triumphant grin spread across my face as I jumped up from the couch. "That's the spirit! Let's go before you change your minds."
The smell of popcorn filled the air as we walked into the theater, the dim lighting and murmurs of excited moviegoers creating a familiar, comforting atmosphere. I handed out the tickets, my excitement palpable.
"See? Isn't this better than staring at textbooks all day?" I teased, nudging Audrey with my elbow.
She rolled her eyes but smiled. "Okay, you win this time, Edvin. But only because I needed a break."
Andres chuckled, taking a seat beside us. "You have a way of convincing people, Edvin. Maybe you should consider a career in sales."
I laughed, throwing a piece of popcorn at him. "I'll keep that in mind. For now, let's just enjoy the movie."
As the lights dimmed and the screen flickered to life, I leaned back in my seat, feeling a sense of contentment. Sure, the future was important, but so was living in the moment. And today, I'd managed to remind my friends of that too.
Walking out of the theater, we were all laughing and talking about our favorite parts of the movie. The stress of studying seemed a distant memory, replaced by the joy of shared experience.
