Despite the momentary flicker of joy in Parsa's gaze, it quickly gave way to sorrow; his expression shifted in the blink of an eye as he stared at me. He lowered his gaze, resting his forehead against my chest, and tightened his embrace, rendering me motionless.

What's going on with him?...

His fingers clenched the fabric of my sweatshirt, his head nuzzling against my chest. I gently slid my left hand down his back and lifted my other hand from his shoulder to his head. Initially, I simply rested my palm against the back of his head, unsure of the appropriate response, but I could sense a profound sadness radiating from him, permeating through my being. Gradually, my fingers started to gently caress his hair in a soothing motion as the intensity of the waves lessened.

As Parsa became conscious of my fingertips running through his hair, he abruptly pulled back, pushing me down. I landed on my butt, causing water to splash around us. I stared at him, dumbfounded by his sudden retreat. He quickly rose to his feet, averting his gaze. "Let's get back inside," he stated, holding his hand out in front of me, gesturing for me to take it.

I silently took hold of Parsa's offered hand and hoisted myself up, not uttering a word. He continued to grip my hand as he led me back towards the villa, his gaze steadfastly averted from mine. Once we reached the veranda, I voiced my concern, "We're going to make a mess if we walk inside like this."

Parsa pushed his wet hair back, contemplating briefly. "Wait here," he instructed, striding towards the small garden on the left side of the sandy yard. He picked up the garden hose and flicked the water on, issuing a command. "Take off your clothes and come over here..."

"What if... someone sees?" I asked, my bewilderment apparent.

"There's nobody around," Parsa responded, scanning the area before adding, "Ryan, we'll both catch a cold if you keep whining instead of coming here quickly!"

Without further delay, I hastily shed my sweatshirt and sweatpants, placing them on the chair. Without wasting any time, I sprinted towards the garden, my skin burning as the cold air enveloped me.

I stood beside Parsa, shivering both from the cold and embarrassment since I was now only in my underwear. I folded my arms, clutching my shoulders tightly, attempting to preserve warmth. Parsa held the hose towards me and water sprayed over my body, starting from my hair and ending at my toes to wash the sticky sands away. I stood still, attempting to endure the cold assault even though my body craved to shiver. Once my body was cleared of any sand, Parsa said, "Run inside."

"Don't you want me to help you?" I asked as I was tiptoeing in the cold.

"Nah, go back," he responded dismissively, taking off his clothes.

"Alright," I said as I ran inside without wasting a second.

With our bodies now cleansed and draped in comfortable pajamas, Parsa and I settled down on the plush beige sofa in the living room, accompanied by a bounty of popcorn, snacks, and beverages. The sun had taken its leave, giving way to the soothing symphony of crickets and frogs intertwined with the rhythmic roaring of the stormy sea that echoed softly within the walls of the villa.

Parsa flicked on the TV and selected an old movie titled "Detachment." I enveloped myself in a small blanket, still feeling chilled to the bone as I leaned against the backrest. Parsa's phone continuously vibrated on the coffee table, eventually catching his attention. He picked up the phone and held it to his ear, leaning back once more.

"What do you want?" he inquired, a hint of irritation tingeing his voice.

As I nibbled on a piece of popcorn, my eyes remained glued to the TV screen. However, my ears strained to eavesdrop on Parsa's conversation with the person on the other end of the line.
