I sighed as I stared at the gloomy sky while dark clouds loomed overhead, casting a shadow over the schoolyard. The air was chilly, and it seemed like snow was on the horizon. I tightened my beige duffle coat around me, trying to ward off the cold as I sat with Danial in the bleachers, shivering slightly.
"Any news yet?" Danial inquired as he took a sip of his piping hot black tea from a paper cup.
I sighed, shaking my head. "Nope. I called him a few times but his phone is switched off."
"It's been a fuckin 17 days..." Danial shook his head, deep in thought. "What the f*ck is he doing? I doubt he's still in the hospital..."
I shrugged despondently, a heavy sigh escaping me, "I don't know..."
Ever since that day, Parsa has been noticeably absent, and I haven't been able to contact him. As the days passed without him, my anxiety only escalated further. I hope he's alright...
I raised my head, my gaze falling upon Amir and Matin strolling around the yard. "Should I ask them?" I whispered to myself as I fidgeted with the free strands of the scarlet-hued scarf wrapped around my neck.
"Hm?" Danial raised an eyebrow in response. Observing my gaze riveted on Parsa's friends, he nonchalantly suggested, "Aha... Go on and ask..."
"Never mind," I responded, lowering my head again, unsure of what I was exactly fearful of. Perhaps it was Amir and Matin's intimidating personas or the fear of becoming aware that I was the only one in the dark.
"Don't be a pussy," Danial retorted as he rose to his feet, placing his cup beside his seat on the floor. "Let's ask them..." He grabbed my wrist and hauled me toward the center of the yard, approaching Amir and Matin.
I protested weakly, attempting to resist, "I can't..."
"Hoy, Amir!" Danial exclaimed as he strode towards them. "Where the hell is your psycho friend?" I involuntarily flinched as Danial released my wrist, encircling my neck with his arm and drawing me closer to him. "His baby is missing him."
I felt my cheeks heat up as I glared at Danial, while Amir observed us impassively and Matin chuckled in response.
"We don't know either..." Amir stated as he shrugged.
"You guys don't know!?" I exclaimed, eyes widening in bewilderment.
Matin nonchalantly shrugged with his palms raised and stated, "We couldn't get hold of him." He then smirked and moved closer to me, propositioning me slyly, "I can entertain you instead of him..."
Before I had a chance to respond to his blabber, Danial swiftly extended his leg and delivered a kick to Matin's buttocks with his shin. "Shut up," he responded curtly, before sighing and addressing me, "These numbskulls are useless. Let's go, Ryan..."
As Danial turned and began walking, I trailed behind him, my laughter escaping involuntarily. He cast a perplexed glance over his shoulder, asking, "Why are you laughing like a creep?"
I replied with a smile, "I just think you're cool."
I kind of feel relieved...
Danial's face reflected his contentment, his arrogant pride evident. "Of course I am!" He then struck a pose, holding his chin between his index finger and thumb, sporting a smug smirk.
"Danny..." A voice cut through our conversation, prompting both of us to turn towards the source. A boy who appeared to be a first-year student, likely younger than us, approached us with a smile on his face. His round black eyes were framed by full eyelashes, and he had shaved black hair and fair skin. He was approximately the same height as me, albeit his body had a plumper build, giving the impression of a dumpling, with his soft cheeks tinged with a rosy hue.
