The Beginning🥺
Month 1
Aarohi stood in the doorway, clutching the pregnancy test with trembling hands. The two pink lines confirmed what she and Neil had hoped for. Neil had been ecstatic when she told him the news just a few days before his accident. Now, she was alone, staring at the empty space where he should have been.
She remembered how Neil had lifted her off the ground and spun her around, laughing with pure joy. "We're going to be parents!" he had shouted, his eyes sparkling with excitement. That memory played over and over in her mind, a bittersweet reminder of what she had lost.
At night, she lay in bed, unable to sleep, her hand resting protectively over her stomach. "I wish you were here, Neil," she whispered into the darkness. "I don't know how to do this without you." The silence was her only response, the emptiness of the house pressing down on her like a weight.
Month 2
Aarohi sat in Neil's favorite chair, wrapped in his jacket, which still carried his scent. Manjari, her mother-in-law, entered the room with a warm cup of herbal tea.
"Drink this, beta," Manjari said gently. "It will help with the nausea."
Aarohi took the cup, her hand shaking. "How can I do this without him, Maa?"
Manjari placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. "You are strong, Aarohi. We are all here for you."
The days passed in a blur of grief and morning sickness. Every corner of the house reminded her of Neil. She found solace in small routines—preparing meals, reading, and talking to her unborn child. "Your father was the best man I've ever known," she would say, her voice trembling. "I hope you inherit his kindness."
One evening, Aarohi sat in Neil's study, looking through his journals. She found an entry dated just a week before his death. "Aarohi is pregnant," he had written. "I'm going to be a father. I can't wait to meet our baby and shower them with all the love I have." She clutched the journal to her chest, tears streaming down her face.
Month 3
Abhimanyu, Neil's elder brother, had always been the pillar of the family. Despite their strained relationship, he stepped in more frequently, sensing Aarohi's struggle. One evening, he found her crying over Neil's old photos.
"Neil would have been so excited," Aarohi sobbed. "He wanted to be a father so badly."
Abhimanyu hugged her tightly. "We'll make sure this baby knows how amazing their father was."
The tension between them slowly began to thaw. They talked about Neil, shared memories, and even managed to laugh at some of his old jokes. "Neil always had a way of bringing people together," Abhimanyu said, a wistful smile on his face. "He'd want us to be there for each other."
Month 4
Aarohi was nervous as she lay on the examination table. The doctor spread the cold gel on her belly and started the ultrasound. Tears welled up in her eyes as she saw the tiny heartbeat on the screen.
"Neil, our baby is growing," she whispered, wishing he were there to see it too.
She shared the ultrasound images with Manjari and Abhimanyu. "Look, this is your grandchild," she said, handing the pictures to Manjari. "Neil would have been so proud."
Manjari hugged her tightly. "He is proud, Aarohi. He's watching over us."
Month 5
As her belly grew, so did the emptiness inside her. Aarohi spent long hours in Neil's study, going through his journals and letters. One night, she found a note he had written about their future.
