Kate's Pov:
Our season has come to an end. With our record being 34:5, we have had an amazing season. Caitlin has broken many records this season. Our attendance has only skyrocketed since last season. The amount of little girls and boys we get to see supporting us every game is insane. I have had a good season as well; making shots, rebounds, and some assists. Our team has improved in our dynamic and connection both on the court and off. Even though we are loosing our seniors both the coaches and we as players believe we will continue to succeed into the next year.
We have a post season conference tonight. Coach B told us they wanted Caitlin, myself, Reese, Monika, and Gabbie. And Coach B of course. When Coach told us who they wanted to talk to Reese questioned her need to be there. The main reason being that she has been out the whole season recovering from her ACL tear. She also mentioned privately to me that she has been trying to stay out of the medias eyes after the amount of hate she has received.
Reese and I's relationship has been the best thing ever. We have continued to learn about and grow to love each other even more each day. I know how to help her if she has a bad day either with her knee, mental health, or anything else really. She knows how to calm me down after a bad game or something that just ticks me off. We are the perfect team. She doesn't like to order food, I will do it for her. I am a hot head, she can calm me down. We are each others peanut butter to jelly, salt to pepper. We just match.
A Couple of Hours Later:
Reese's Pov:
To be honest I don't understand why I have to go to this press conference tonight. I haven't even been able to play all season. Tonight is meant to be about the season's accomplishments and the team's hard work. I haven't contributed because I physically can't. But I "have" to go, Coaches words. I put on my Iowa shirt and hoodie along with some Iowa sweats. I just want to be comfortable. I hear my phone go off and I am met with a text telling me that both Caitlin and Kate are there to pick me up. As we are driving to the school, I can hear the faint sound of the radio on in the background of Caitlin and Kate's conversation about who knows what.
(Italics are interviewers)
We have all gotten situated in our seats I am in between Caitlin and Kate. Questions starts flying in mostly to both Caitlin and Coach B. Most of them being about Cait's accomplishments and the season in general. I am brought back to reality when I hear one of them say my name. "This question is for Reese, how has it been recovering from your ACL injury?" Attempting to compose myself before speaking, "It has definitely been a challenge dealing with this injury but with the support from my family, coaches and teammates it has made it a lot easier." After that first question they start to flood me with questions. "Reese, is there a timeline on when you could be back into the game?" "My knee has improved drastically over the past 5-6 months, I have been able to participate in practices and shoot around for some time now. If everything stays on track I can only hope to be back next season."
Most of the questions we have been asked have been positive and kind but one particular question ended up not seeming to be so kind. "Hi Reese, George Anderson here, Do you think that your injury was a sign that you should rethink your decisions on your position on this team?" I am honestly taken back at the question and the harshness of it. "Uh- um well.." I stutter out before Caitlin speaks out on my behalf. "I believe that question doesn't apply to this particular situation sir." I decided that I need to answer anyway. "I have had multiple conversations with both Coach Bluder and Coach Jensen about my future with this team along with my teammates. I believe that the injury to my knee will only improve my drive for success and my work ethic both on and off the court. But I thank you for the question George even if it wasn't the answer you wished to receive." I completely that last sentence in a snarky and sarcastic tone. It's safe to say that shuts him up pretty quickly. I can hear both the interviewers and my teammates next to me laugh slightly. I can feel a quick tap to my thigh from Kate next to me as a way of telling me good job.
A/N: kinda a filler chapter, I think next chapter will be a crazy one.
