Reese's Pov
It's been a couple of days since I moved in and met Kate Martin, I haven't yet met any more of my future teammates. But we have our first "practice" today, it's really like a shoot around and introduction to everyone and the coaches. When I met Kate the other day I kinda figured that the rest of the team would be pretty sweet to me and welcoming. Especially after talking with Caitlin about the coach's and girls over coffee yesterday morning. She knew how stressed I get when I'm meeting new people.
Our practice is at 3 today so with it being only 12 right now I have some time to gather my thoughts and prepare. I plan on getting there a little early, mainly because I feel like being on time is like being late, I blame my anxiety. So I'll probably show up at like 2:30 or 2:45, plus it might have a good impression on the coaching staff and my teammates.
Emma and I are sitting on our couch watching Stranger Things, it's one of our favorite shows to bing. Emma speaks up saying "So Kate Martin huh?" while nudging me teasingly. "Seriously Emma?" I reply back while huffing and rolling my eyes. "Come on, I saw the way you introduced her and the way you were sneaking glances at her while we were hanging out." "I was not sneaking glances, I was observing." "Okay whatever, I've got to go talk to the media team about when they want me to start." "Bye M" "Bye lover girl"
It's finally time for practice, and to be honest the nerves have set in. I texted Caitlin asking her if we could walk together since it was nice out and I needed a distraction from the nerves. She said yes and told me she would be there in 10-15 minutes. I grab my bag and make sure I put in my shoes obviously, hair bands, deodorant, perfume, extra socks, my water bottle and a Gatorade, protein bar, and a towel for my hands. After a couple of minutes I hear a knock and open the door to Caitlin. "Ready to go?" she asks while holding her bag in hand. "I think so" I reply grabbing my bag and locking the door.
We've arrived at the gym and when I walk in I hear the sound of a couple of basketball dribbling and the sound of squeaky shoes on the court. When we turn the corner I see Kate and Coach Bluder talking while a couple of the other coaches are chatting with each other. "Hey guys" Caitlin says and when they turn around Kate says "Reese hey, welcome to your first official practice" "Thanks Kate, glad to be here" I reply before turning to Coach Bluder "Thank you for giving me the opportunity and privilege to play on such an amazing team." "You're welcome Reese, I'm glad that we were able to snatch you from the transfer portal, practice today is mainly just meeting everyone and a little shooting around maybe a scrimmage at the end." "Okay Coach, I'm gonna go warm up." I reply while walking over to the bench to put on my shoes.
Everyone starts showing up after we arrived and after introductions and a little shoot around practice is concluded with a scrimmage game the teams are Caitlin, Me, Sydney, Monkia, and Kylie verses Kate, Gabbie, Hannah, Molly and Taylor. We play for a while and our team end up winning after Sydney hits a 3 and we steal the ball for an easy layup. I'm sitting on the bench drinking some water before packing up when Kate walks up to me and says "Good game Reese, I didn't realize how alike you and Caitlin are on the court, your touches are beautiful." "Aw thank you Kate, your spin moves are insane, along with your threes and well everything else you do.... On the court I.. I mean." "Thanks Ree" she says with a little smirk while patting my shoulder and then walking off to talk to some of the girls.
