Thanksgiving
I turned over to big spoon my girlfriend but she wasn't there. "Babe?" I mumble into the pillow that still has her vanilla scent. No response. I take my face out of the pillow and look around my room to see her outside my window on the roof. "Hey baby." I greet to try not to spook her.
She turned a little startled by a sudden voice but smiles when she sees me. "Hi baby." I climb out with her and kiss her when I get settled on the other side of the window. "I'm sorry I wasn't in the bed. I wanted to watch the sunrise here. It's so quiet and refreshing here." She says facing out to the horizon.
"Yeah I used to this exact thing every day before school. Just to clear my head before my dad died." Ariyah turns to me for me to continue and holds my hand. "I'd just come out here and find peace in something, while I felt like everything was falling inside. And then after," I sniffle and choke out a laugh, "I just wanted to get away. Isiah was in Dallas so I took that chance. I think Isiah felt it worse then any of us. Malin kept him up though. I didn't really have anyone. Except," I look at Ariyah and giving her a knowing look. She nods with an understanding look.
"Well now you have me baby. And there's no running away from me so don't even try it." She points at me making me smile.
"Not a chance." I lean to kiss her. We go back to watching the horizon until cars start driving the streets letting us know we need to get the day started as well.
"What should I wear?" She asks when we make it back inside my room.
I shrug. "Mom doesn't really do that whole 'dress to impress' shit. We watch the football game before so you can wear whatever. But you are the CEO of a fashion company therefore I know you will go all out." I say smiling getting our towels to take a shower.
"You know it baby. But I don't want to overdo it but I also have to make sure I don't look like a bum in front of Camille." She says joking but I know she's actually thinking she has to compete with Camille.
I frown at that and I pick her up and lay us down on the bed with me on top. She giggles and I cup her face so she looks at me. "Baby. You are not in competition with her." Her smile falters and she nods. "I'm serious. There's no competition because you already have my attention, my heart, my love. You are who I want and need in my life. She is the past."
"She's your first in everything Alex. How do I beat that?" She ask in the least confident I've ever seen her and I hate it.
I shake my head. "You're the first person I said I was in love with." I say as matter of fact. "I told her I loved her but that's it. I never felt how I feel with you with her. She never even came close. If you want to have something 'on her', you've got me madly and deeply in love with you. And she could never take that away from you." I kiss her softly.
She smiles shyly. "Ugh you always know what to say. I love you baby." She kisses me back.
"Because it's true baby. I love you too. Now, shower time." We get up to go to the bathroom. We take turns washing each others bodies and hair. "So this is why you always smell like vanilla." I say looking at her vanilla scented body wash.
She laughs. "Yes. And I have the matching lotion in my suitcase if you want some."
"No I like smelling it on you only." We get out the shower and I dry her off first and then she gets me. We brush our teeth in the mirror over the 'his and hers' sinks in my bathroom.
"I'd love this in our house. That way I can have my makeup everywhere on my side without messing up yours." Ariyah says and her use of 'our house' warms my heart and sets off fireworks in my mind. I find myself just staring at her. "What?" She says laughing. "You don't think it's a good idea?"
