marley's pov
i was back at uni the next day despite waking up 20 minutes before my class. i don't know what time i went to sleep last night but i know it was late since the city was already waking up by the time i was closing my eyes.

this week the girls were going out on placement. alyssa as a nurse and willow in teaching. they both decided to use it as a chance to explore and are going to different cities meaning i have the apartment to myself.

"do you want me to go grocery shopping before i go, it is my week"
"yeah let us leave you money since we will be gone for a while"

"no it's fine guys really, i'll see you both in a few weeks" i hugged them as they would be gone by the time i got back from uni and work.

i had back to back lectures today and i was not looking forward to it.

i grabbed a cold bottle of water and left the house with my bag.
downstairs i got in my car and started driving.

i would only be a couple minutes late? hopefully.

it was 827 by the time i got to the lecture hall and when i opened the door the whole auditorium turned to stare at me. i apologised to my professor and walked to my seat.

blake gave me a pestering smirk and i rolled my eyes at him. it as the start of the second semester so there was a lot of new students around.

i had 5 minutes to get to my next class when i ran into someone. "i'm so sorry, let me help you" i had knocked an older lady and a few papers spilled on the ground.

"it's okay dear" she smiled sweetly. i gave her a smile and rushed to my phycology class.

2 pm. that's when i got out of uni. unacceptable if you ask me. the weather was miserable which i loved. it was nearing the cooler months now.

meaning it was close to my birthday. 2 weeks actually. the girls get back the next week so if i don't remind billie i could probably get away with not celebrating it. i got in my car when call came through.

"hey mars, i haven't heard from you all day?" speak of the devil. except shes actually an angel.

"sorry i haven't been on my phone all day" i said checking in my backpack that i had infact brought it. "you okay, you sound upset?"

"no i'm okay, i just missed you, i've been working all day". i bet she was sittting on the couch in her studio. the one by the window. she had the blinds open and would look out more than at her journal. shark was by her legs or on her lap. she probably had those chocolate peanut butter cookies her mum makes as a snack.

"yeah i get that-" we continued talking until i arrived at my destination.
"i gotta go bil but ill call you after work?" she hummed in agreement not so enthusiastically "or by the sound of that you'll be at my place?" i questioned with a laugh and i knew she was smiling now.

"you know me so well, i'll see you later pretty" she kissed the phone and hung up.

i pulled out my noise cancelling headphones and started playing angus and julia stone. specifically santa monica dream. i head down the beach to patio comfort food cafe it's been a while since i was here and sit down on my unofficial beanbag.

i wasn't in a rush waiting to be served. it was pretty busy.
"hey marley" it was august in front of me.

"hey august," i smiled up at her. "can i just have the berry smoothie?" she nodded writing it down.

"any food?" she asked and i shook my head and she left. i looked out to the waves again. she came back with my drink.

"you okay?" she then asked noticing my zoned out state. i nodded and luckily there was more customers.

the drink was thick and cold on my throat. i could fall asleep here. but i have work in an hour.  bartending tonight because there's no one on apparently. then i got another text.

hey i need you closing this week, i have a wedding to go to and now that i gave you time off for your other job everyone else wants time off.

ill send you your updated schedule.

i leant my head back against the beanbag with a sigh. hearing someone plop down beside me i see august with a drink, cupcake and some hot chips. 

"you'd looked like you need company" she said then saying she was on her break.

"thanks" i smiled at her. "how's the cafe?"

"good, we've had to let some people go because they were shit and kept stealing so now we need to hire more people" i hummed letting her talk.

"if i wasn't locked in i would quit my club job and come work with you"
"no can you actually, that would be so fun and it's so chill.

"i can't, not for another few months atleast" i sighed again.

"how's the girlfriend?"
"good, shes great" i smiled at the thought of her. we talked till the end of her break and. by that time i had to leave too.

"i'll see you later august" i smiled paying but she canceled the transaction.
"it's on the house" so i left her a 20 dollar tip.

when i got to work i walked in to it quiet. thank god.

about 2 hours into my shift there was a big fight which i had to jump over the counter and breakup along with the other security guard.

i got right hooked in the face which was unpleasant. and shoved into a bar stool but it's fine because the police were called.

i was holding the guy to the ground pretty easily when they got there. after a statement i had to go back to work like nothing happened.

an hour later i went on my first break and went to see blake. for once he was busy. it seems a whole cast of a-list celebrities were packing the vip section. 

when he got a brake her came over to where i was sitting.
"now you know what i feel like" i laughed at him as he hit me with the tea towel. i went behind the bar and cut up some fruit telling him about the gossip i've heard from people.
