Chapter 18

"Karl, I'm starting to rethink my decision a bit." I said, chewing in my lip as I sat on the scaffolding with him, overlooking the warehouse as they painted the circle on the floor, "are you actually?" he asked, looking away from the satisfying paint job, "I mean, not really I don't know. I'm super excited but it's going to be hard to be away from you for so long." I sighed, leaning my head onto his shoulder as he put his arm around my waist, "who said anything about me being away from you? I might as well be doing the challenge with you because I plan on staying with you most of the time, and we are living at the warehouse until the challenge is over anyways." he chuckled, making me look up at him, "really?" I asked to which he nodded, "yeah, I mean it might be kind of hard because Jimmy just had to give you the most obnoxious colour of shirt but I think I'll be able to make an exception." he said before planting a kiss on my cheek.

I let my eyes close for a moment as the kiss lingered longer than usual. "I had to savour that, I don't know how long it'll be until I can do that again." he spoke lowkey, staring deeply into my eyes as we heard the other people begin to pour into the warehouse. I grabbed his hand and gave it one last squeeze before bringing it up to my lips and planting a kiss on the back of his hand, "well, we could always sneak into the porta-potty, or hide in the pile of money." I suggested, laughing as his nose wrinkled up, "a porta-potty, how romantic." he made a gaging noise before standing and pulling me up with him, "I think it's about time you go meet your fellow contestants, wouldn't you say?" I nodded, following him down the stairs and only separating our hands as we reached the bottom, "wait, is Dani going to be competing too?" a girl around my age with light brown hair and a green shirt asked, to which I nodded, pointing to my shirt.

"yeah, this isn't necessarily my usual style. Let's just say I wasn't wearing this in solidarity." I said making the few people near us laugh, "thank God, we need some cool people in here. Let's go bestie." she giggled, linking arms with me and pulling me towards a group of girls also wearing green, looks like I've been adopted. I convinced them pretty quickly that our name should be the dream team after the blob man himself and when asked how I fit into that I simply said that I'm what George thinks dream looks like which thankfully they all understood or I would've had to find new friends. We all sat around talking for another half an hour, getting to know each other before we all had to stand around the circle to get a few shots for the intro then they went up onto the scaffolding and shot the rest from there. The crew came around to talk to people for a little before we were left to our own devices.

I was sitting with the new group of friends I made which was mostly comprised of the girls from the green team plus a few others when Karl walked over to our group. Everyone said hi to him as he crouched down between me and the girl who initially adopted me, I'd just learned that her name was Julia. "are you guys excited for the challenge?" he asked, pointing his camera around the group. They said yes, a few girls answered the age old question, 'what would you do with the money if you won' and with that he handed his camera off to Nolan and stood again, holding his hand out to me. "hey, where are you taking our new friend?" one of the girls from Blue named Jenny asked, "we are going to take a nap in the money pile, don't worry though I'll have her back to you guys safe and sound in no time." he said, making me laugh as he pulled me towards the center and flopped down into the pile, pulling me down with him.

"you know people are going to catch on eventually, with you coming in and sweeping me away to do stuff like this." I whispered, laying on my side facing him and using one of my hands to pick up the money before letting it fall over his chest. He sighed, wrapping an arm around my shoulder and pulling me a bit closer before letting his head fall back into the money. "realistically, they've all seen our videos and/or your streams and they know what our dynamic is like. Besides, if anyone questions us just point out that I do this with everyone, that usually does the trick." he said making me role my eyes, "you just can't keep your hands off me, you lasted a whole hour." I snickered, glancing up at the big clock on the wall, "well after the conversation we had last night, how would you expect me to?" he asked quietly, glancing around him briefly, "you pose a good question Mr. Jacobs, one that I do not know the answer to."
