After a few episodes of their favourite show, Marjorie got up from the sofa and headed towards the kitchen to make herself a drink. She was still hurt by the comments that were made about her earlier, but she felt a bit more relaxed after laying on the sofa with Reece.
While Marjorie was lost in her own thoughts, she accidentally dropped the glass on the floor, causing it to smash beneath her. Before she could react, Reece came walking in. "Marjorie? Are you okay?" He started walking towards her.
Marjorie stood there for a second. "I'll clean it up, go away." She mumbled.
"Marjorie, you have no shoes on and the glass is right next to you, let me help you." Reece said concerned, he started walking closer towards her and held his hand out, expecting her to take it.
"Reece!" She raised her voice. "It's my fault, I did this, i'll clean it. Go away." She said firmly, not looking at him.
Reece was taken aback at Marjorie raising her voice. He was confused, it was just a glass? "Marjorie–"
"Reece. Go. It's my fault." She spoke out, interrupting what he was saying, her voice sounded slightly more irritated this time. Reece raised his eyebrows at her response, but he didn't want to irritate Marjorie even more, so he walked away. He's never seen her like this before.
As Marjorie heard reece leave the room, she looked up and took a step back away from the glass. She slowly kneeled down and started to sweep the glass up, her hands starting to become shaky, as her mind started to play on all the things her mother used to say to her. 'It's all your fault. You caused all this. You'll never be good enough for anyone.' Those words were being repeated in Marjorie's head as she cleaned away the glass.
As she threw the final pieces in the bin, her breaths started to become more shaky. The thoughts wouldn't leave her head. She quickly walked back into the living room and caught Reece's attention. "Marjorie–" he started, but before he could say anything else, she was already out the room and headed upstairs. He then head the bathroom door slam.
With that, he made his way up the stairs. "Marjorie? What's the matter? Why are you upset?" He said from the other side of the door.
Marjorie didn't respond, she started pacing around the bathroom trying to catch her breath. All the emotions that had built up in her from today, won against her. Reece was never supposed to see her like this. And she was confused why all this was happening. "Did you accidentally hurt yourself or something? I'm confused?" Reece spoke again, praying she responds.
Marjorie stopped walking around the bathroom and slowly threw her head back towards the wall. She sighed and responded with a simple "no."
Reece walked closer towards the door and thought for a second, trying to figure out what was wrong. "Look Marjorie," he started, "this obviously isn't about the glass, there is something more to this. But if you don't want to talk about it, that's fine, but can you atleast come out so i know you're okay?"
Hearing Reece trying to reassure Marjorie slowly made her calm down a little bit. She placed her hand over her forehead and took a deep breath, she walked towards the door and unlocked it, her eyes immediately meeting Reeces. She stood there for a second looking at him, not knowing what to say. "I'm sorry." She mumbled out.
Reece sighed and wrapped his arms tightly around his girlfriend. "Don't be sorry, it's okay." He places a kiss on the top of her head. "It's not your fault."
'it's not your fault' played in Marjorie's head for a second. She's never been told that in situations like these before. Usually when it came to Marjorie making a mistake, her mother would belittle her until she was stood there crying and apologising. Marjorie didn't say anything to Reece, she just stood there in his arms, pulling him closer.
"It was just a glass." He said, trying to reassure the possible thoughts she was having right now. He didn't know what Marjorie was thinking about during these moments, but he knew that there was something wrong, and he didn't want her to think he was mad at her.
Marjorie mumbled into reece's chest. "It wasn't just a glass."
