Marjorie smiled to herself as she walked up the stairs, she stopped in the hallway, she looked out the window and saw all of her friends outside laughing together. She smiled even more. She will always choose them.

She walked into the empty bedroom and kneeled down in front of wardrobe and slid out the box of shoes she had kept by for Carly. She picked up the heavy box, but her attention was drawn to a bright yellow envelope sat at the bottom of the wardrobe.

She tilted her head and put the box down, she picked up the letter. It was titled 'Dear future me..' She thought to herself for a moment, but she came to the conclusion that she didn't want to open it. So she threw it back down and picked the box up. She walked down the stairs, through all the empty rooms, and met everyone back outside. All of their attention was drawn to Marjorie, they smiled at her. Reece stood up and took the box out of Marjorie's hands, he then placed it in front of Carly and let her rummage through the box.

Mia and Charlotte helped Carly pair all the shoes together as they were all scattered in the box. Meanwhile, Reece wrapped his arm around Marjories waist and pulled her close. He leaned down by her ear. "Autumn told me what happened." He whispered, causing Marjorie to look up at him. He gave her a warm smile. "I'm proud of you."

Marjorie smiled in return, she turned her head back to look at the others who were sat in a circle. She relaxed into Reece's side, feeling grateful for the life she's living. She started thinking about that envelope, the curiosity taking over her thoughts. "Darling, i'm gonna go back inside, just making sure we've got everything we need." She looked up at Reece and smiled. He kissed the side of her head and loosened his grip on her, letting her walk back into the house.

She walked back up the stairs, back into the bedroom and kneeled down. She slowly picked up the envelope. She signed, and admired the handwriting. Her younger self having to write letters because she had no one to turn to, no one to trust, it broke her present self. She stood up and stood out in the hallway. She looked out the window again, watching Carly stumble into Charlottes arms as she tried to walk in heels. She laughed to herself, and then looked back down at the envelope. She opened it and started reading.

Dear future me,

I hope you got away from all these bad people and are living the life you've always dreamed of. Are you happy? Mum always drags me down for things that aren't my fault, so I hope you got away from her. She isn't a nice mum. I hope you found people who you can laugh with, have fun with, people who love you for yourself. Look after yourself, don't let mum hold you back.

And also, I hope you found a boyfriend who treats you like you're the only girl in the world. The amount of times i've been asked out as a joke really upsets me, so I hope he makes you happy. Don't let these monsters haunt you for the rest of your life, move on, make memories, live the life you and I both know you deserve. Stay kind to yourself.

Lots of love

You, from the past x

She blinked. She watched as the paper slowly started to turn damp, from the tears falling out of her eyes. The fact that her younger self wrote these for hope, hurt her. She sucked in a breath and looked up, looking outside at her friends. She watched as her boyfriend was holding Carly's hands, trying to help her balance while walking in different pairs of heels. The whole gang laughing along as she continuously failed and fell into Reece's arms. But she never gave up on trying.

She smiled at them and wiped away her tears. She looked back down at the letter, staring at the words "are you happy?" She looked back up, out the window and smiled once again. She nodded. "I am happy. Very happy."

She took a deep breath and ripped the letters up into small pieces. She didn't want to keep it, she wanted to move on. And having that letter by her side, being reminded of the pain she went through as a kid, was not something she wanted to carry as she stepped out of this house one last time. She continued to rip every piece of the paper, her tears slowly stopping from falling. She threw every piece into a box that her and Reece were going to throw away. She didn't want to carry the weight of her past life anymore.

She walked back down the stairs and back out into the garden. Everyone looked up at her and smiled, the redness under her eyes were visible. "Marjorie. Are you alright?" Charlotte asked.

Marjorie looked at everyone sat down, she smiled. "Yeah, I just–" She paused for a moment, taking in how much progress she had made over the years. Whether that was alone, or with someone by her side. "I just love you guys."

She sat down and joined everyone, laughing and smiling along, finally feeling like a complete different version of herself. She was happy, and she was determined for no one to take that from her. She was proud of herself, she knew her friends and boyfriend were proud of her, and she knew her younger self would look up at her and smile, feeling proud too.

For many years, Marjorie has had her shine taken away by the people who are supposed to love you the most. But she now realises that sometimes you can't force people to try and like you. Instead, these people will come to you, and they will never give up on you. She'll always keep the people who brought her shine back close. And she's not going to hold back anymore.

To some, Marjorie was just a plastic diamond, they may be worth something at first, but after they rust they are considered worthless, and are quite often thrown away.

However, she had now found the people who value her the most. The people that will never give up on her, the people that will never let her be alone in the dark again.

She will forever have a constant shine, as long as shes around the people who she loves the most.
