Marjorie has been quite on edge all day after hearing his name again. Everytime someone asked her if she was okay, she'd blame it on her mother. Yeah she was still a bit mad over the invitation, however she realised she had bigger issues. She never thought she would ever have to see or speak about Terrance after he left years ago. Marjorie was currently sat at home, waiting for Reece to walk through the door.
After 20 minutes of waiting Reece finally walked into the house. He walked into the living room and saw his girlfriend laying down scrolling on her phone, practically half asleep. He smiled and walked over to her, gently rubbing his hand across her arm. "Marjorie?"
Marjorie turned her head and looked up at Reece, rubbing her eyes. "Hey my love." She smiled.
Reece walked around and slightly lifted Marjorie's legs so she could rest them over his, he placed his hand on her thigh. "Are you tired?"
Marjorie sat up from her position. "Yeah, long day." She slightly laughed.
"Still upset about your mother?" He questioned, gently moving his hand up and down her leg.
"A little bit. But it'll be fine, i'll be fine." She shrugged.
"If it makes you feel any better, I can make you your favourite pasta?" He said, causing Marjorie to laugh.
She quickly nodded her head. "You know I can't say no to that."
Reece quickly smiled and got up off the sofa. "I'll get to it then." He leaned down and placed a kiss on her forehead and headed into the kitchen.
As Marjorie was waiting for Reece to quickly make their food, she sat there thinking to herself about the inspection next week. She was debating on whether she should tell Reece about what she went through with Terrance, or whether she should just take the day off work that day. She remembered her conversation with Reece a few weeks ago, she remembered she promised to tell him anything that was on her mind. So she gave herself the strength to tell him when he walked back in the room.
After a few minutes Reece walked back into the room and sat back down next to Marjorie. "The pasta is boiling, shouldn't take too long." He smiled.
Marjorie briefly smiled back. "Reece.." She took a deep breath and sat up, crossing her legs on the couch and sat facing him. "Can I tell you something?"
Reece's expression immediately changed, he sat up and faced Marjorie. "Of course you can, you can tell me anything." Marjorie slightly nodded, not really knowing where to start. Reece started to notice the panicked expression on her face. "It's okay, take your time."
Those words caused Marjorie to look up and smile, the way Reece is so patient and reassuring with her makes her feel a lot less on edge, she knows that he'll always be there to listen. "I have an inspection next week, for the nursery."
"Yeah, I saw on the email, mines tomorrow." He said, waiting for Marjorie to continue.
Marjorie looked down at the floor. "Who's it with?"
Reece shrugged. "I'm not sure, think it was someone called Terrance?" Hearing that name again caused Marjorie to take another deep breath. "Why?" He asked.
Marjorie slowly moved her head to look back up, her eyes meeting with Reece's. It took a second for Marjorie to start speaking. "When I started at the nursery, as an apprentice, he was my manager." She started. "He helped me get on track at the nursery, and eventually started to help me learn how to become manager."
Reece was slowly nodding along, showing Marjorie that he was listening to everything she was saying. She continued. "When I did become manager, he wanted to celebrate." She paused for a second. "He took me out to dinner and he tried to kiss me." Marjorie's eyes started to water a little bit, and Reece's expression changed from concerned to angry, he shook his head not saying a word.
Marjorie continued. "He said he felt like he deserved something in return for helping me all those years." Marjorie's wiped away the tears that had escaped from her eyes, she continued. "I stood up and ran away from the restaurant before he could get too close, I went home and cried my eyes out."
Reece shook his head again. "Marjorie, i'm so sorry that happened to you." He spoke up.
"I never told anyone." She spoke again. "Because his words made it feel like I didn't deserve the managers position, and I thought maybe i'd never get any more opportunities if I did speak up."
They both sat in silence for a second, Reece taking in all the words Marjorie said. The more he learns about her, the more his heart breaks for her and everything she had to go through. He reached out his hand and took hers. "Marjorie, you an amazing manger, and you're an amazing person." He started. "You deserve every good thing that's ever come to you, you've earned it all."
Marjorie nodded and slightly smiled, she felt safer knowing that Reece was around. "This is why I take situations like this around the nursery so seriously. This has happened to so many people I know, it really hurts me." She spoke up again. "I try and make the nursery a safe environment, but knowing he's still around? I don't know how to feel."
Reece's leaned over to Marjorie and wiped her tears away. "So then let's get him gone." He said.
"Reece, this happened years ago." She said instantly. "What if I speak up and people don't.. believe me?"
"I believe you. And I know there will be loads of people around you who will also believe you." He said, tucking her hair behind her ear. "And I also know there will be people around who are not scared to make that guys life a living hell."
Marjorie perked up a little bit hearing that. "You mean that?" She asked.
"I will deal with him, i'll make sure you never have to see him again." He said confidently. "And if you ever want to publicly name and shame him, you always have your girls around to help with that." He added.
Marjorie smiled, the realisation kicked in that she'd never be left alone with the amount of people that stood by her side. "I'll talk to Autumn tomorrow." She simply said. "I love you."
"I love you too." He smiled. They both leaned in to kiss each other, Marjorie taking in all the comfort she had received from Reece.
Marjorie broke away the kiss. "Pasta now? I'm starving." She asked.
Reece laughed. "Of course my love." He stood up and held his hand out. "Come along, you can help me make the sauce."
Marjorie jokingly widened her eyes. "You're trusting me to help you make food?" She said sarcastically.
"You will be under strict supervision." He replied back in a jokingly tone. Marjorie laughed and took his hand, as they headed off to the kitchen.
