0008. | GHOSTS OF THE
PAST SAILING AND PARTYING

Percy awoke with a start, sitting up straight as a bolt as if Annabeth had dumped some ice cubes down his back. She hadn't. It was the ship's whistle and intercom. A voice sounded with an Australian accent and a voice that was annoyingly cheery for so soon after he had woken up.

"Good morning, passengers! We'll be at sea all day today. Excellent weather for the poolside mambo party! Don't forget million-dollar bingo in the Kraken Lounge at one o'clock, and for our special guests, disembowelling practice on the Promenade!"

Percy blinked. He must have misheard. "What did he say?"

He looked over at Annabeth who was looking rough in the morning. He had forgotten how her curly hair stuck up without a hairbrush. He ran his hands through his own hair, self-conscious, and when she looked over at him, scowling from their wake-up call, he wiped at his chin for fear of having drooled.

Tyson groaned, still half-asleep. "The happy man said... bowling practice?"

          "Disembowelling practice?" Annabeth gulped.

Percy gulped too. He didn't want to know what special guests partook in disemboweling so much that they needed practice in it.

They all dressed quickly and grabbed their backpacks.

When they left their room, bravely facing the cruise in daylight, they were all shocked to see people actually on the boat.

There was a queue to the cocktail bar despite the barely rising sun. The breakfast omelette line was vastly growing, and a struggling dad was fighting between his kids over towels for a sun lounger. Crew members wore crisp white uniforms and patrolled the deck, topping their hats to the passengers. It was way busier than last night had even tempted at.

Nobody paid them any attention, and that was the suspicious thing. Percy always managed to draw attention. Something wasn't right.

A family of swimmers passed them by with puffed up arm bands and Hawaiian pattern swimsuits. "We are on a cruise. We are having fun." The dad said.

"Yes." His three kids spoke in unison. "We are having a blast. We will swim in the pool." Judging by the blank looks on their faces, Percy guessed only one of their statements were true.

          They wandered away.

"Good morning." A crew member in uniform said to them. His eyes were glazed and his face was blank. "We are all enjoying ourselves aboard the Princess Andromeda. Have a nice day." He wandered away as leisurely as the swimmers had.
