0003. | HIGH HOPES WILL
ALWAYS FALL THE FURTHEST

The seasons were changing. Winter and spring came and went and summer reared its sunny head over the flowers and brought the strawberries in the field to life and the freckles on children's faces to the surface. Heat bloomed under skin and ice thawed away as if it had never been there before. Khione was gone and now Persephone was returned to her mother Demeter and all the world got to bask in that glory.

Summer was bright and strong and renewed. Octavia was feeling very summery. She was going on a date.

Now, that wasn't making her giddy. No, she was sure the feelings brewing in her tummy were all based in curiosity. She had spent the last hour and a half getting ready, doing her hair, trying on different outfits, deciding whether she should wear makeup or not. Her skin was tingling with interest and her heart thrumming with possibilities.

Silena wasn't helping much with that either. She was helping Octavia get ready. In fact, she had a whole army at her back helping her get ready. The second Silena had spilled Octavia was going on a date, Drew was ready and rearing to help out. Octavia was grateful for that. Drew was amazing at hair and at giving compliments and death threats too. The latter wasn't so useful right now but it was always nice to have in the bank. And Lacy, their youngest sister, was there too. Lacy wasn't much help other than telling Octavia how pretty she looked every five minutes.

With Silena and her sisters, Octavia had brought her own comfort and back-up in the form of Annabeth, Kayla, and Clarisse.

"I think it should be a dress." Silena mused, circling her like she was a mannequin.

"Jeans and a cute top." Drew argued from where she was sat on her bed, watching.

Drew had the sort of attractiveness that made any compliment from her feel amazing. With her sleek black hair that was shiny at every angle and her flawless eyeliner, Drew was one of the prettiest girls at Camp and of course she was every part Aphrodite's daughter. She was a little difficult to swallow sometimes when she was being mean but when she was nice, she was the most generous person ever and she loved her sisters more than anything. She looked up to Silena as much as Will did to James.

"Jeans and a cute top is a classic." Annabeth nodded sincerely.

"But that's so dull. Classics are dull." Silena said decidedly with a frown. "If she wore something exciting—,"

"Her face is exciting enough." Drew added. "Don't make the outfit compete."

Clarisse rolled her eyes at her. Octavia blushed. "Thanks, Drew."

Drew waved her off, busy filing her nails. "Don't thank me, hon, thank your genetics. They are doing so much for you." She said. "Little miss sunshine never looked so good."
