0014. | NOBODY GETS TO
MAKE IT OUT OF THIS ALIVEPercy woke up feeling stiff and achey.
The sky was light and brightening as the sun was rising and he was staring straight up at it. He rolled his head from side to side and realised he wasn't laying in a hammock belowdeck, he had fallen asleep on the deck by the stern. No wonder he felt so achy, he had slept on oak the entire night.
His arm felt heavy and he turned his head, expecting a reason for his pins and needles and he saw the reason immediately. Octavia's orange head was rested on his arm, laying on her side and facing away from him. Her legs were curled up to her chest and he could feel her hands on his forearm where she was using him as a cushion. He blushed and felt awkward.
He knew she'd probably have swatted him away if she had woken up first, but she was still sleeping, her could hear it in her even breaths.
He couldn't even remember how they had got to sleep, only that he had been exhausted after saving her from the Sirens and she was probably just a tired from staying up and then nearly drowning. They must have passed out together after she stopped crying. He was glad she wasn't crying anymore, at least, and the fact that she was heated back up to her usual searing hot temperature that made his skin sizzle. It must have meant she was healthy again, or as healthy as someone who was scarred by the sun could be.
He didn't know if he should wake her or not, but he figured it'd be less embarrassing than letting her wake up and think he had wanted to cuddle her to sleep like a teddy bear. He wasn't five...
"Octavia." He touched her shoulder where she was still wearing his hoodie. "Octavia." He murmured, shaking her.
She sat up bolt right, awake and alert. "Huh? What—? Who's dying—?"
"Luckily, no one." He said and sat up beside her. He squeezed his hand and flexed his fingers to get the blood flowing again. "We fell asleep after leaving Sirens' Bay."
She groaned and put a hand to her head. He guessed she had a headache after how much crying she had done. "Do we have any water left?"
He got to his feet and found the canteen that they had found on the ship when they stole it. Octavia had cleaned it thoroughly in her fears of sharing the diseases of the pirate men from Aeaea, but now it was fine to store water. They had taken some saltwater from the sea and purified it over a fire. He had vaguely remembered the lesson from science class and from Camp when the Athena kids tried to teach him, but Octavia had done it like second nature. She was better with survival skills than he was, he sort of only excelled with swords.
"Here." He passed it to her and she chugged down some big gulps.
She wiped her mouth and offered it to him. "Sorry, I didn't mean to take so much."
