0007.| MAZES OF ROCK LEAD
TO MAZES OF FEELINGSImmediate darkness wasn't the most confidence-boosting start, but it was where Percy felt most comfortable after the display he had just seen above ground. At least the lack of light was sign that Camp Half-Blood was far behind them now.
The entrance sealed off immediately. Daylight was long gone. The corridor stretched out behind and beyond them as it had when he and Annabeth fell down the other night.
It looked like a sewer. The walls were made from red brick, dirtied from years of age that made Percy feel uneasy. It was as dark as it had been the last time and his eyes naturally drew towards Octavia. She was the only golden thing among the brass metalled sewer, light and bright and beautiful. Her skin was aglow, quite bright as if she was making up for the absence of light in the tunnel. Like a moth to a flame, he couldn't look away from her.
He could almost forget the invisible stain of Travis' kiss left on her cheek. He wished to wash it away.
"Well, this is disgusting." She grimaced. A droplet of dirty water splashed from a brass pipe over her head and narrowly missed hitting her thanks to her fast reflexes that somehow saw it coming. She wrinkled her nose at the puddle it joined on the floor.
"Expecting a five star resort?" He snarked.
She gave him a look. "Just hoping."
He grinned, knowing she was being silly but he just loved it when her southern accent came out. He always thought there was something so cute about it.
She had her hands on her hips and surveyed the room with a horrible grimace on her face, as if she really was examining the quality of a five star resort. From the face she was making, she was not best impressed.
"This really is horrible. Why are we here again?" She sneered.
"To help Grover find Pan and protect Camp from the Titans." Annabeth offered her helpfully.
"Oh, yeah." She grumbled.
Percy grinned at her and fished his flashlight out of his backpack. "You bring yours?" He asked.
"I am mine." She wagged her glowing fingers at him.
His eyes danced over the tantalising movement like a fool. There was a reflection of lights like golden stars in the pools of puddles around her. He thought that if there were puddles on the ceiling, she would be crowned with a golden halo.
Grover stepped to cling to her side. "Don't go far." He told her.
She looped her arm with his and patted his shoulder kindly. "Stick with me." She instructed him.
