0011. | NOBODY WHO IS YOUNG WILL EVER BE OLD
"That way is west." Zoë told them.
Travis wasn't really listening to her. He didn't care what direction west was. He didn't care about the stupid junkyard or any of it. His body was rife with anger and he could feel his hands shaking. It was the feeling after a punch, the trembling, the shaking, the ache that would leave his hand feeling empty and his knuckles raw. He felt that feeling through his whole body when the War God came near him.
He couldn't get what Ares said to him out of his head.
He couldn't shake the feeling that Percy thought he was better than him. He had killed the Nemean Lion and had a bulletproof jacket, he fought an invincible skeleton and won. Now, he had earned an audience with the goddess of love. Travis wanted to curl up in a ball and ignore the rest of the world for as long as time lasted.
He had known about Percy's crush on Octavia for a long while. It was painfully obvious to anyone who paid the least amount of attention to how he talked about her. Travis had known from the moment Percy came to Camp, but after he called her a traitor, Travis figured he was safe, he figured Percy didn't stand a chance. Now, he was losing that faith.
Aphrodite talked to him. That didn't bode well for Travis. A War God and a Love Goddess came to visit and they split between Travis and Percy like oil on water.
Travis felt pathetic and like a total teenager when he thought it, but he was jealous. He wanted to go into the limousine with Aphrodite. He wanted the Love Goddess' support. He wanted to be teased about having a crush. If he could speak with Aphrodite, if he could have been teased, then it would mean everyone recognised that he and Octavia might have had something. He wanted something with her. He wanted to find her and talk to her and maybe even kiss her like Silena told him to. He didn't want Percy Jackson in the way, and a horrid part of him felt that if Percy was trying as well, then he didn't stand as much of a chance.
The truth was, Travis had already suffered in getting Octavia's attention to himself thanks to guys like Malcolm and Alex, or even that ass Joseph from the Demeter Cabin. Because all those guys spent their entire time drooling over her, he thought his best route would be to give her space, make her come to him. It had worked, really. He was right, she was like his shadow. She laughed when he told jokes, she asked to be on his team in Capture the Flag, she wanted his help with her homework... For a while, it almost felt like maybe she was starting to like him.
He didn't want Percy to interfere with that. After Aphrodite spoke to him, he had a nasty feeling Percy was going to be a problem.
He looked over at the guy and saw his face was still red with a fierce blush. It might have been freezing cold in the desert, but Percy was red faced all the way from his hairline to the neck of his hoodie.
