The Gamer returned to the box to check if it had been disturbed and everything looked the same, but he couldn't hear anything, no sounds of breathing and he wondered if the professor had died. It was very late and he didn't feel like digging up the box even if he was dead, he would just move him the same way as he had with the others.
Wei awoke first in the morning and felt Yunlan asleep beside him, as he listened to the sound of his regular strong heart until it suddenly stopped. He opened his eyes and stared in horror as Yunlan's face began to dissolve, revealing the white bone structure underneath, and he cried out in terror. This living white skeleton was shaking him by his shoulders and calling his name as he tried to free himself but couldn't get out of its grip.
Yunlan kept talking to Wei as he gently shook him out of his dream which was making him struggle in fear until he eventually opened his eyes and realised that it was a nightmare. Wei took a deep breath in and looked at Yunlan's concerned face in front of him before he slowly reached out and touched his cheek, he was real.
"I thought you were dead and it terrified me," Wei admitted.
"Your mind is playing tricks with you. It will stop in a couple of days when you have had the chance to recover. May I see what frightened you?" Yunlan asked, revealing the fact that he was a mind reader.
Wei was relieved and agreed, it would have been too difficult to try and explain. Yunlan gently placed his hand on the side of Wei's face and brushed his hair back as he easily slipped inside Wei's thoughts. Different images assaulted him, from complete darkness with a tiny flying green ray of hope to the most recent, a skeleton holding him in a death grip and Yunlan opened his eyes to break his contact. He understood what Wei's greatest fear was.
"Your mind is amplifying your fears, making them seem larger and sharper. You need time to heal, Xiao Wei. I'm not going anywhere for a very long time. Look into my thoughts and I'll show you the real me. The first day I came here, Ying tried but I blocked him ... You, I will never block, you can search my mind any time you wish." Wei hesitated but he realised that Yunlan trusted him fully and had nothing to hide by allowing him to access his mind and he cuddled him firmer while he looked at Yunlan's memories.
His last case involved drugs and murder before he got the call from the Enigma Room to come here. Wei watched and felt the mistrust from Ava, Ying and Chu before they accepted him and then he saw himself lying on the floor in his study while Yunlan resuscitated him. He watched him as he washed his eyes, and saw him talking to him every night. He also witnessed him saving the young student and crying when he opened the box Wei was sealed in, before he took him home.
They lay quiet for a while longer until it was time for breakfast and Yunlan moved first. He went to the bathroom to wash before he ran some fresh water and came back to lift Wei who was embarrassed as he helped him, but he had no choice.
