The gamer had to change his plans. He had been forced to give up his best player by someone who obviously had friends in high places and he would need to think of a special game for him. One that he would definitely lose, and he began watching Yunlan's movements, his friends, his work and his relationship to the professor. Detective Zhao had found Shen Wei in the box, and had protected him in the bedroom but his name was familiar and then it suddenly came to him. Was he any relation to the other detective he'd killed several years ago? This was going to be a much better game playing with him, rather than the professor, more interesting and on a larger scale. He could target all Zhao Yunlan's friends while he was right under the professor's nose.
Guo Ying had been waiting for a parcel to arrive from abroad, a rare piece or porcelain, the only one left in the collection of Royal Doulton Ladies that the museum didn't have. It was valuable because it was the last one in existence. The others had been lost through time, and an old man had offered this one free of charge. He wanted to see it exhibited with the others, knowing that it would be kept safe after he died. The museum had publicised that the collection would be on display as soon as the last lady had arrived and Ying was delighted when the registered parcel was delivered.
One of the guards accepted it from the courier and thanked him before he called on Ying to open the gift. Even though they were guards, they were also interested in their work looking after the exhibits in the museum and had learned the history behind each piece. So when the last Doulton Lady arrived, they were all there to watch the box being unwrapped, except for Guard Li who had become a lecturer at the university.
Ying was very careful in removing all the necessary padding which kept the piece from being damaged in transit and he lifted the stunning beauty out for all to see. Every lady had a hollow base but not this one. She had a cyanide gas container, small enough to fit inside, and it was triggered as soon as Ying spoke her name, she was called Ava and the invisible toxic gas escaped into the air. After the guards had inhaled it, one by one they began to feel pain in their chest as they struggled to breathe and collapsed while the mark of death slowly appeared on each of their foreheads. When Guo Ying hit the floor, his last thoughts were of Ava, was there also a death gift sent to her at the mansion?
A huge bouquet of flowers arrived at the front door with a large box of chocolates. The name of the sender was Guo Ying and the rest of the team at the museum who wanted to show their appreciation for providing a buffet which would be served to the guests on the opening night of the exhibition, when the collection of Doulton went on show at the museum. Ava thought that it was totally unnecessary but the flowers were beautiful and she smiled broadly as she accepted them. She had also learned that one of the ladies had her name and she definitely wanted to see it, so she sat down with a cup of tea staring at the chocolates, but temptation won and Ava opened them.
They all looked lovely, but it was a brand of chocolate that she'd never seen before, and chose one. It had an unusual flavour and a moment after she bit it, she felt the pain in her chest and began to foam at her mouth. Ava knew immediately what it was but she was too late to stop the effect and saw her own reflection on the steel kettle with the sign of death on her brow as she collapsed across the kitchen table.
