"Blind Man's Bluff," Yunlan suggested and saw the frowns developing on everyone's faces.
"I don't think I'm going to like this suggestion, are you thinking about using someone as bait? ... Nooo ... I don't like this idea because you would be the one used as bait, no." Shen Wei declared and Yunlan knew that he would have to explain it in more detail.
"The gamer knows that he can't get to you because he considers me a threat, therefore it would make sense to him to find out my weakness, he would take his chance and remove me. But he's cautious and he'd approach me first to see if I was really blind. I have complete faith in You, Black robe and the guards. You would be watching me all the time while I played blind, it would give us the chance to see what he looks like and find out who he is."
In theory, the plan seemed good but too many things could go wrong and Wei was completely against it, while Chu was the opposite and agreed. He could see the positive outcome, they would be able to find out who the gamer was but Wei was determined and refused to listen to any more of Yunlan's wild suggestions. He was terrified of losing him and no amount of talking would convince him otherwise, so rather than upset Wei any further, Yunlan agreed to shelf it for a while. Chu left with Daqing in Jing's car, he had agreed to drive them home, which brought some peace back to the mansion for the rest of the day.
Ava's dinner was first class and afterwards, Wei went through to the lounge with Yunlan and sat watching the fire as he relaxed with a drink of fruit juice in his hands.
"When did you find out that you could slow time, were you young or older?" Wei asked which surprised Yunlan. He hadn't thought about it for years and it felt as if it was in another lifetime.
"I always could when I was younger, but I just thought that I had fast reflexes, until I started my training in the police force and saved someone's life. Thankfully the street camera was broken and I was never filmed. And then about ten years ago, I fell asleep one night and woke up in the Enigma room. It was a different caretaker, and older man and he had been watching me. He explained a few things before he offered me this job working for the PAB, but I wasn't supposed to tell anyone." Yunlan explained as he saw some sadness appear in Wei's face.
The flames made the fire look real but it was gas controlled, not natural, and usually that wouldn't bother Wei but he had seen real camp fires outdoors in the woods, and he longed for a break away from everything. Somewhere he didn't need to worry about threats to their lives or the gamer.
"Ah Lan, do you like the outdoors, camping or climbing or hill walking?"
Yunlan could see the weariness in Wei's eyes and even though he wasn't overly fond of anything outside without comfort, he asked him why he wanted to know.
"I would like to take you to a safe place with connections to your past, we would be protected, and if you wanted, I could even bring a bed with us instead of sleeping bags. It would be pleasantly warm and if we needed anything else, I could teleport."
