The table in the kitchen was busier than usual and Ava had been on cloud nine all day, therefore her dinner was excellent tonight. Yunlan didn't know of anyone who could produce high quality restaurant meals from a home kitchen and he was delighted, but also nervous. Guo Ying had brought the guards and introduced them to him by name but he still didn't know that they were Wei's Guards. They stared at him all through dinner, making him feel as if he was the main attraction at the table and not the food. Afterwards, Ava had made some tea and coffee for everyone to help themselves. Yunlan liked both but in the evening, he preferred tea, coffee would keep him awake.
"Tell us about your work detective, we haven't really had the chance to talk and get to know you," Ying asked as all the guards listened carefully.
Yunlan felt that this was a step forward, they were beginning to accept him, and he was willing to talk for as long as they were willing to listen.
"As I said to Ava, I'm an independent police investigator and I go where I'm needed. Usually to solve cases that have come to a stand still or are difficult, and they send for me. The one I'm involved with here, is the serial murder case with the sign imprinted on the victim's forehead and no weapon used to induce heart attacks," Yunlan explained but he immediately became aware of a stillness in the kitchen and wondered if he had said something out of place.
"Have you found out anything yet or read any of the files?" Ying asked as he sadly looked towards him, giving Yunlan a very uncomfortable feeling.
"He doesn't know Ying," Ava explained quietly as she glanced over towards Yunlan.
"Your distant relative, the other owner of this mansion and Shen Wei's partner was the second victim. He was investigating the first murder when he was killed."
Yunlan felt sick, the caretaker would have found this difficult to tell him and he understood but he was still shocked at finding out why Shen Wei was in so much emotional pain.
"I haven't been given the files to read yet and never knew, I'm so sorry if I seemed uncaring in any way. I care about all my work." He replied watching as the guards casually left the kitchen, one after another until Ying was the only person left and he turned to speak to him but his expression immediately changed to one of concern and Yunlan touched his arm, surprising him by the next thing he said,
"Teleport now and take me with you."
There was no time for questions or answers. Ying stood and rested his hand on Yunlan's shoulder as they both vanished only to reappear in Wei's flat close to the university. The protection wards had been breached and Black Robe had been defending himself against an intruder who was restrained in black ropes of power before he started to question him. Ying immediately dropped to his knees while Yunlan stared at the dark image. It was beginning to make some sense to him, and he spoke to the Spirit without fear.
