"Young Master Jin, what is there to thank me for?" Hua Mu Lan asked him as she stated the facts "We've only just met, we're strangers to each other"

"May I talk to you in private?" Jin Ling politely asked her, then looked at Wei Wuxian "I won't do anything to harm your daughter"

"I'm her uncle," Wei Wuxian told him, not feeling amused by his first impression of him. He doesn't trust Jin Ling, especially in front of Wen Ning and Wen Qing's children. One slight move of mistake could lead to a slip of his identity and their lives. He currently doesn't want to be pestered.

This made Jin Ling speechless as he had misinterpreted their relationship as a father and daughter instead, it was an uncle and niece, just like the relationship between him and his jiu jiu.

He Mu Lan looked at Wei Wuxian for permission, which he gave a nod of approval but glared at Jin Ling as he was giving him a nonverbal message of "I don't trust you, Jins, especially from the rumors I heard, you better be responsible when it comes to her. Hurt her, and I dare you to get lost."

"If you please," Jin Ling awkwardly gestured his hand towards the stairs.

"Hm," Hua Mu Lan nodded and stood up from her seat. She headed up the stairs first, followed by Jin Ling. The Jin disciples were the most surprised to witness that the sect heir could properly ask a girl with any refusals or negative reactions. It was well known that he picked up most of his uncle's temper and personality..many people believe that he would be like his uncle, who's been banned from the list of matchmakers due to his high taste and requirements for a partner.

"Are you sure that this is a good idea?" Ren Tao asked Wei Wuxian, who was looking at their interaction from below. "Letting her interact with him can bring about terrible consequences."

"It's not the first time she's been courted by men. However, my only issue is that compared to the rest, I know the person courting her." Wei Wuxian replied while putting a piece of rice in his mouth.

"I pity the guy who's talking to her," Song Peizhi commented "She knows how to bite and takes pride in that"

"You do realize that he is Jin Rulan, the sect heir of Lanling Jin and..ahem." Hua Jian Yu slightly tilted his head and  moved his lips, pointing towards Wei Wuxian.

"His personality is deeply like his uncle who is very known to be picky towards women for he has such high standards when it comes to a perfect wife"

"Which are?"

"From what I remembered in the past..graceful, obedient, hard-working and thrifty,  naturally beautiful, coming from a respected family, personality not too strong, cultivation level not too high...not too talkative and voice not too loud." Wei Wuxian was surprised that he was able to remember all of those high standards

"No wonder he's blacklisted," Song Peizhi deadpanned answered, with Hua Long Wei nodding in agreement.

"Was there even a woman who fitted those standards?"

"Not that I think of," Wei Wuxian answered as he thought about it '..perhaps Qing Jie?? But she hates him to the guts'

"Young master Jin, may I know why you wish to speak to me?" He Mu Lan asked Jin Ling

"I...I want to thank you for yesterday." Jin Ling repeated what he said downstairs, "What you did.."

"Do not impose on others what you do not desire."  He Mu Lan spoke to him as she walked from 1 side to the other while talking to him: "As a cultivator, it is best to govern people by punishment and regulations, they will avoid them but have no sense of shame. If you govern them with virtue and propriety, they will have a sense of shame and become upright."
