Author's POV
As the days passed without further arguments or conflicts, Jungkook and Ena seemed to drift apart more than ever. Jungkook departed for the office each morning, while Ena prepared to head to the university. However, In the morning, she was abruptly halted by a sudden, dull ache in her abdomen. Groaning in discomfort, she sank onto the bed, her bag slipping from her grasp as she clutched her abdomen tightly.
Concerned by the unfamiliar nature of the pain, she rummaged through her cupboard and, fortunately, found some painkillers. After taking one with a sip of water, she managed to grab her bag and head out to the university, though the pain had slightly diminished.
Jungkook's POV
I never imagined I'd come to crave the chaos of our arguments and fights so intensely. The silence between us was a cold, unbearable void. As I sat in my office, my thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the door.
Jimin entered, carrying a pair of tickets. "Jungkook, these are for you and Ena. Your flight to Russia is set for the day after tomorrow. Make sure you let her know. I'll head there tomorrow," he said, handing me the tickets.
I accepted them with a nod, but a sense of uncertainty gnawed at me. Should I ask her to come with me? The thought of inviting her felt like an intrusion given our strained relationship. My plans for the trip felt hollow, and the prospect of her refusal was a bitter pill to swallow. I sighed deeply, my mind troubled, as I left for a meeting in the conference room, the weight of our unspoken distance hanging over me.
Ena's POV
I trudged through the day at university, each step accompanied by a persistent, gnawing pain in my abdomen. I couldn't fathom why this discomfort had surfaced so suddenly, and the sensation only deepened my sense of isolation.
When I finally returned to the mansion, I sank onto the couch in the living room, feeling as if the weight of the world was pressing down on me. I was lost in the oppressive silence when a voice from behind shattered the stillness.
Jungwon's voice pierced through my melancholy, and I braced myself for another round of emotional turbulence.
Ena's POV
"Hey, sweetheart. Long time, no see," Jungwon spat with a venomous edge.
"Lucky you," he continued, his voice dripping with disdain. "Even after trying to kill my father, you're living comfortably in his mansion. And to top it all off, you married Jungkook. Did you plan it all along?"
I was already on edge from the pain gnawing at my abdomen. "I'm not obligated to answer you," I retorted, frustration evident in my voice.
Rising from the couch, I attempted to head toward my room, but he obstructed my path. "What do you think you're doing?" I demanded.
"It seems you're getting along well with my brother," he said, a smirk stretching across his face.
Rolling my eyes, I sighed heavily. "Jungwon, move. I'm tired."
He closed the distance between us with a predatory grace. "Shall I offer some 'relief' for your tired muscles?" he suggested, his voice dripping with sleaze. My stomach churned as I stumbled backward, repelled by his nefarious intentions.
"Well, I'm home for a while," he said mockingly. "I'm sure we'll see each other often, sister-in-law." He chuckled darkly. As he turned to leave, he paused. "Oh, and by the way, your dear husband is off to Russia in a day. If you ever feel lonely or need anything, my room is always open for you," he added with a sleazy wink.
My heart sank. How could Jungkook leave me here with his deranged brother? The thought of being left alone with this man was unbearable. Desperation and dread gripped me. I whispered to myself, "No, I can't stay here with him. I can't. Not alone."
