The house felt unusually quiet, with only the soft hum of the air conditioning breaking the silence. It had been three days since the fire, and both Ena and Jungkook had stayed home, trying to recover from their physical and emotional wounds. The scars from their burns were slowly healing, while both of them constantly seem to care for one another.
Ena sat at the dining table, absentmindedly stirring a cup of tea. She glanced at her bandaged hands, a constant reminder of the events that had shaken their fragile equilibrium. Her phone buzzed with a message from her university, a reminder of the classes she had missed. She sighed, feeling the weight of responsibility pressing down on her.
---------------Jungkook sat at his desk, papers spread out before him as he worked from home. The quiet murmur of his keyboard filled the room until a soft knock at the door interrupted his focus. He looked up, surprised to see Ena standing in the doorway.
"Ena! What are you doing here?" he asked, his tone betraying his surprise. It was rare for her to come into his study, especially without warning.
Ena hesitated, her hands nervously fidgeting at her sides. "I want to talk about something," she said, her voice quiet but determined.
Jungkook's expression softened slightly, sensing the seriousness in her tone. He set aside his work and gestured for her to enter. "What is it?" he asked, his voice calm and inviting, though a hint of concern flickered in his eyes.
Ena took a deep breath, steeling herself. "The bakery called me," she began, her voice wavering slightly. "They want me to rejoin at another branch."
The air in the room seemed to thicken with tension. Jungkook's face darkened, his eyes narrowing as the implications of her words sank in. "Are you serious?" he asked, his voice carrying a dark, incredulous edge.
Ena nodded, her own anxiety mirrored in his eyes. She had expected resistance, but the intensity of his reaction still caught her off guard. "I am," she replied, her voice barely above a whisper.
Jungkook let out a harsh, bitter laugh. "You're not doing any kind of job. That's final," he declared, his tone brooking no argument.
"This is not fair, Jungkook!" Ena countered, her voice rising as frustration bubbled to the surface. She felt trapped, suffocated by his protectiveness.
Jungkook's expression hardened, his voice rising with barely controlled anger. "Ena, you almost lost your goddamn life in that place! For fuck's sake, please!" His words were sharp, cutting through the room like a knife.
Ena flinched at the intensity of his outburst but stood her ground. "This won't happen again, I promise," she pleaded, her voice cracking under the weight of her emotions.
Jungkook shook his head, his frustration palpable. "I must be crazy if I let you go back to work. Giving you a second chance means risking your life, and I can't take that fucking chance!" His voice was raw, a mixture of fear and anger lacing his words.
Ena's eyes welled up with tears, her frustration and hurt clear on her face. "Jungkook, please," she whispered, her voice breaking.
"Leave," Jungkook spat coldly, turning away from her. The finality in his voice stung, a cold wall slamming down between them.
Ena's shoulders slumped as she blinked back tears. She turned and left the room, the door closing behind her with a loud thud that echoed through the silent house. It was a sound filled with frustration, anger, and a sense of helplessness.
As the door closed, Jungkook leaned back in his chair, closing his eyes in frustration. The silence of the room was oppressive, filled with the weight of unspoken fears and unresolved tensions. He ran a hand through his hair, feeling the weight of his own emotions pressing down on him. He knew he was being overprotective, but the thought of losing Ena again was unbearable. The line between love and control had blurred, leaving both of them struggling to find a way forward in the aftermath of their traumatic experience.
